Wonderful second visit to Kariega
Remodeling done after the fire last year makes for a much more expansive and cleaner feeling to the lodge. Beautiful stonework on the wall. Loved the food and sitting by the warm fire at night. We will definitely return.
What an experience! Words fail me but will do my best. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here from the moment we arrived, in a rainstorm, to the time we left. Our suite was exceptional with a private dip pool, mini bar and a huge bed. When we arrived in the rain, our guide for the duration, Allen came out in the rain to introduce himself. What a wonderful man. Throughout our game drives he was able to answer all our questions and, more importantly, he was a genuinely nice young man. He helped make the experience that much more enjoyable but that is not meant to detract from the other staff. The staff we met were all a credit to the Lodge, a welcome smile and nothing too much trouble. The food was fantastic and I especially liked our breaks on the game dives for coffee in the morning and beer/wine in the afternoon. We met other guests and were sat for meals according to our specific ranger. The lodge itself is an experience. The theming is so authentic, not that I am an expert, and very relaxing. Would we return? Most definitely and are currently saving for next year
Simply Stunning in Every Way!
We stayed for three nights at Ukhozi Lodge. Accommodation was very nice in your own spacious cabin complete with private plunge pool. Food and drink was also a very high standard. The safari drives were very well organised and you are given a guide upon arrival. Two 3 hour drives a day, one leaving at 5.30am (summertime) and the second leaving at 4.30pm (winter times alter). The guide we had, Allen was absolutely brilliant! Really knowledgeable, so funny and more importantly ensured we saw the big 5, along with many more. Ensure you take warm clothing as even in the summer, on the tops of the hills there can be a cold wind. Your guide will have blankets on the jeep though. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are provided mid way through your morning drive and hot beverages and fresh muffins are provided at the lodge prior to departure. Afternoon tea is served prior to the afternoon drive and there is a well stocked bar and nibbles mid way through the drive. Ladies, leave your posh frocks at home. No one dresses up for dinner as you don't get that much time between getting back and dinner. Casual dress is fine. Between drives, the time is your own. Kenton on sea is about a 30 minute drive. There is a shop and spa on site and you can also do a self guided bush walk. If none of those things appeal. Take a good book, relax and enjoy the stunning landscape
Everything you wanted from a mini safari
This is a wonderful re-wilding project that’s so successful..... all the animals have reproduced and fingers crossed for baby lions soon. The accommodation is amazing ( we were in Suite 10 at the end) and couldn’t have had a better stay. The rooms are well designed and the beds the BEST ever for a great sleep. The rangers all share info so it doesn’t matter which one you have, they all get you to the right places. We saw everything up close and personal and the rangers show respect for the animals which we appreciated. The only downside is getting out of bed at 5 am to catch the morning light.
What a fantastic stay at Kariega, Ukhozi Lodge as part of our honeymoon trip of South Africa. We stayed for 3 nights and managed to see some amazing animals on the park during our stay, our ranger was really knowledgable too! We loved all the little extra things the staff did to go above and beyond, a beautiful romantic meal set up on the terrace in the lodge after the evening game drive was just beautiful and it made our stay even more special! Would highly recommend Ukhozi Lodge, the staff, food and the dancing!
