Beautiful home away from home
Stayed in a two bed villa and cannot praise the place highly enough. From check in to departure...even out of season it was fab. We were lucky with the weather. Chilled out bare foot luxury. Miss at your peril. Lovely Voya lotions and potions too
Martinhal is made up of hotel, apartments and villas. We stayed in the hotel which is the lovely wooden clad buildings on the front, right near the main pool, reception and 2 of the restaurants. The whole complex is excellent for families. When we visited it was full of families like us with very young children. I would not recommend if you don’t have children (unless you really like being around them when on holiday trying to relax!). The restaurants have play areas for kids and at breakfast there is a play worker on hard to help keep them entertained. The menus are great for children and includes purees for babies. The complex is clean and large and very well maintained with several pools and an outdoor play area. The pools were freezing, my little one managed no more than 30mins before his teeth where chattering. We had room service on our first night, simple burgers and chips...it was awful so we either hired bikes and cycled or drove (we hired a car) into sages where there are lots of excellent reasonably priced restaurants. Breakfast was really good and we had lunch most days which was also very good but we had been put off using the restaurant in an evening after room service experience. Despite this, we 100% would have returned next year had it not been for multiple “influencers” there on a freebie. Quite frankly, I’m not paying for instagrammers to hang around posing for selfies. It’s cringeworthy, annoying, and even more annoying that I’m funding this nonsense!
Great place to stay
Our family with 2 teenage boys stayed here in October. We had a wonderful time. Everything was so easy in a safe environment. There are 4 pools to use. We only used the Club 98 one, which was pretty much empty. The pool down by there beach was crowded with young families, but there is a great cafe where you can grab a bite to eat. The resort restaurants were all very nice, but there are also 2 beach restaurants (not part of the resort). For the more ambitious, a 20 minute walk along the beach into Sagres we found a great restaurant right by the harbour wall. There are plenty of activities for all ages as well as some trips that the hotel staff can organise for you. The receptionists are all very helpful. Worth mentioning is the shop in the resort that sells most things you need, mainly English brands such as Heinz beans and Robinson squash so no need to worry about going without your creature comforts! The accommodation is fantastic, light and airy.(Bay houses) Great views, sunrises and sunset. For our first Resort holiday we were really impressed and would definitely stay again.
Lovely friendly staff - it’s best asset!
Stayed for 7 nights in a 3 bed villa on the complex with a 2 year old and 4 year old. Everything here is geared up towards children and the restaurants and kitchens in the villa had everything you could think of. On our first night we were tired after travelling and wanted a quick meal. However the service was painfully slow and the children really struggled. We asked to sign the bill 3 times but it never came!! We never returned to that particular place. There was a big play area with bouncy castle, trampolines and play houses. This was spoilt by bigger children just barging their way on to equipment and just taking over. There were no staff members ever in the area to complain to. Better to section areas off depending on ages? The badly cobbled and uneven roads and pavements made pushing buggies hard work and a great trip hazzard for toddlers. The two upstairs bedrooms smelled strongly of damp - not pleasant and not good for health. This should be sorted out. Food options were fairly limited but well cooked. The staff in all the restaurants were excellent. I would not return as this certainly did not live up to expectations sadly.
Great spot for an easy break
We have stayed with our two teens for a week in late October. The rooms are great and we very much enjoyed the view on the Sagres bay (Ocean view room). The room setup is great and the service top. All people are friendly and very helpful. We have not used the kids club but very much enjoyed the pool in late afternoon when the families headed to dinner. Sports amendities are great but relatively pricey such has the spa. We have enjoyed eating in but also enjoyed discovering the Sagres restaurants which offer a more local experience. Would recommend to families with kids and we may come back as the region has a lot to offer.
