More than expected
We’ve had a fabulous stay. Clean, not crowded, staff acting well during Covid situation. Excellent location few steps from the Valletta gate. The dinner and breakfast were top notch, exactly how you would expect it from a 5* hotel, and it’s often not the case in Malta. One of the best swimming pools with a view in the island. It wasn’t too crowded at the time we visited. When booking, make sure you have a balcony room, the basic ones are quite small.
Holiday journey with a special friend
My friend has always spoken so highly about the Phoenicia Valletta. The hotel is beautiful very much like Raffles in Singapore. The old staff that are still there were amazing the new staff not so good. The pool is wonderful but the invasion of off the off the road customers is awful it was like being in club 18-30. The both of us spoke to the drunk people in the pool made no difference so we left. I was going to book the suite in November I shall now be going to a local boutique hotel very sad I had to make this choice.
Impeccable and superb hotel
The Phoenicia is an amazing and classy hotel with its comfortable and stylish lobby, beautiful gardens and spectacular infinity pool. The staff are professional and very helpful and attentive which gives The Phoenicia the feel of a boutique hotel. Breakfast was mouthwatering, freshly made and there was such a vast choice. The room was super comfortable and spotless. To top up all its extraordinary amenities, this hotel is a few minutes walk from Valletta. This is a hotel I would revisit over and over again and which I would recommend without hesitation.
Open & honest review - Phoenicia Experience Package for 2
Bit of a long review but I'm going to try and cover everything from our experience last week. In fact we bought just that, the Phoenicia Experience Package for 2 as a bit of a treat for a birthday celebration. Reservations: Booking was easy through the website and in fact an email was received by the Phoenicia Reservations Agent about our forthcoming stay shortly after, checking for any special requests and what amenities we'd like in the room (a new covid measure). Checking In: Complimentary parking offered in the car park; no signs directing us to reception but we found it in any case. Beautifully greeted by the reception staff member and unexpectedly an upgrade was offered which was a pleasant surprise. Upon entering the room, whilst lovely, it had a double bed and bath (we had booked a twin room with accessible bathroom/walk in shower). We phone down to reception and within minutes we were allocated another upgraded room but as per the room specification booked. Very efficient! Lunch: Lunch was included in the package at the Bastion Pool restaurant. To get the pool area it’s quite the walk through the gorgeous and colourful gardens towards the bastions. Again, the staff were friendly and courteous although we had been told the restaurant was full and there wasn't space until 3pm (for lunch)! Given that we also had dinner included, this was not great news and in fact no one had told us we had to make a lunch reservation before arrival. However, in true Phoenicia style, the restaurant staff soon rearranged a gazebo to include a dining table and chairs and we ultimately had our own private lunch area! The food was delicious and portions plentiful. Top marks here! Pool Area: It was quite a busy day at the pool but the staff assured us that for hotel guests the first row of sunbeds and last row were reserved for hotel guests, so we were soon allocated sunbeds in the front row with white fluffy towels and wow what a view onto the harbour with the infinity pool in front. Cocktails flowed as the staff offered a waiter service to your sunbed. No smoking allowed at poolside which was great, but there was a gazebo smoking area in the gardens above the pool area. Public toilets were very spacious and clean. The Room: I would have to say that whilst the rooms a beautifully and elegantly decorated, they are still quite small for 2 people. However, cleanliness is at the top of the list, as well as receiving a protection kit in the rooms (mask and wipe) as it is mandatory to wear masks in all open spaces. We called down for a hairdryer and they were only too happy to oblige. Dinner: Dinner was also included in the package and this was served in the Cafe Phoenicia. The Cafe Phoenicia has a real 1920's vibe and decor even on the outside terrace. The food unfortunately did not hit the mark at all. Starters were fine (octopus and pigs cheeks croquettes) but mains let them down substantially., The Risotto was super salty to the point that half of it could not be eaten and the Farfalle pasta dish with ham hock looked like it was created for a kiddies party rather than the fine dining experience we expected. Down to the plates the food was served on, it looked like plastic plates you might find at a BBQ party or a kiddies party - again not the fine white china we would have expected given the decor. For dessert we took the Phoenicia chocolate cake and boy was it delicious, decadent, luxurious, tasty - just wow! That made up for the poor mains and actually the restaurant offered to make good on the bad mains (another example of the excellent customer service at the Phoenicia). Breakfast: Breakfast was the final meal we had included in our stay and there was a choice of hot, cold and bakery items as well as a selection of teas and coffees, all served in yet another restaurant, the Palm Court which is accessed through the most beautiful lounge area where you could also order afternoon tea and soak up the elegance and style the Phoenicia has to offer. All in all we had a wonderful stay with the décor and the people having made the greatest impact on us. Yes, we would definitely recommend a stay here or if nothing else, at least a Pool day with good food and cocktails.
1 night stay
Magical night with harbour view room and service to perfection. Every detail during our stay made it more special and food was exquisite and fine. Staff were very friendly and experience was superb. We will definitely be repeat customers.
