The best hotel town !
Great hotel and love the nostalgic fitting and decorations. The room was nice except the water tap probably needs to be replaced. It keeps on dropping out. The service is fantastic as I can only order room service due to recent covid lockdown . However the food is rather expensive and so so taste, ordered 6 Satays and it is really tiny and normal . It cost me RM25! The breakfast is great and more than enough for one person. The room I have that faces the seaside and the pool. Very nice to able to catch the sunrise and sunset. Will come back again to use other facilities in the future so can make better assessments. The room also comes with free flow of drinks from the mini bar, lots of whiskey, gin, volka , beer that you can consume probably due to lock down.
Exceeded Expectations, Would Love To Stay Again!
We had an amazing time at this beautiful hotel. We spent a few hours walking around the hotel and grounds looking at all the wonderful things to see. The gym was great and the pool was amazing, it was the perfect temperature for me. All the staff were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast and dinner were so yummy and the room was gorgeous. When we arrived into our room, the hospitality team had done some special things for our anniversary, rose petals and a delicious mini chocolate cake. We would love to stay here again.
Beautiful Colonial Hotel
This hotel also known as E&O goes 135 years back in time to the days of the colonial times with British high teas with scones and ladies in their elegant dresses. Similar to the likes of the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, walking into E&O is not simply walking into any other hotel. It feels more like you are walking into The Peranakan Museum. We pretty much went trigger happy with Leica all over from the hotel frontage all the way into the lobby and eventually the room. There was something to take of literally at every corner. Even the dinning room which serves both Nonya and Classic European was classy. Sort of emits the kind of vibe one would get from the British club. Because we went during the RMCO, the Farquhar’s Bar was closed but looked quite fancy at a glance from the outside and the poolside seemed like a great place to be for sunsets. Many prestigious and established institutions have always had their halls referred to as the “hallowed and famed halls”. The halls of E&O were no less. Though they were rich in heritage, they also had a classy feel to it. With your footsteps echoing off the walls. The rooms were tastefully decorated and sizeable with a nice view of the ocean. The bed room and mini living room had a rustic feel to it. You even had your own Butler call bell at your bedside. The bar was well stocked with alcohol beverages of sorts in the event one would like a spot of tea in the afternoon or a nice night cap before bed. The toilet on the other hand was black and white with nice marble finishings. As we commented in the previous post, this hotel seems to pride itself on service and in the details. It helps one appreciate the finer things in life. It doesn’t matter from you have travelled from but this is where you would want to be after a long day out. It is nothing short of perfect. No better way to digest a meal than to take a nice stroll around a beautifully landscaped and decorated hotel. Unfortunately it was a little cloudy with a slight drizzle hence the sunset wasn’t all that inspiring. However, that does encourage one to explore the interior of the hotel which seemed more like an art museum with expensive art paintings hanging from the walls and your footsteps echoing off the chessboard like floor. The frontage of the hotel, classic as ever. Bright eyed and bushy tailed we headed to the breakfast dining area expecting a buffet. But instead, we were handed a menu with a variety of dishes to choose from and served individually. At first sight, we assumed we are entitled to a dish per person. However, the server informed us that we were entitled to as much as we liked. Hence, tempted by the delicious menu, we choose French Toast, Prawn Noodles, American Breakfast, Fruit Platter and a Mocha. The last thing we expected was the beautifully plating and absolutely delicious dishes that arrived. The French toast was plated beautifully and complimented well with berries and caramelised apples and dusted with icing sugar to finish. The aroma of the Prawn Noodles was simply mouth watering and the broth was tasty. Lastly the fruits were fresh, crunchy and sweet. An absolutely perfect breakfast to start a beautiful day. As good as any breakfast at a restaurant could get 🤤 All in all it is a Hotel that pays attention to service and details. We absolutely adored it. Our full review is on Instagram (@monk3yseendo)
Thank you to the staff who sever at Sarkies Wedding 21/03/2021
A home base from Penangites who works as a hotelier overseas and another state of Malaysia. The purpose of writing this letter is to compliment your hotel staff & the Food & Beverage Manager Colin Wong for their wonderful services. Thanks to your staff for making it such a comfortable wedding dinner at your hotel host by Steve Lee my friends. I was there to attended with utmost warmth. I was impressed to see the prompt service with par level of luxury standard again. Compare with 3 years back, the restaurant's services were unexpected worst from a heritage luxury hotel. Every need was catered with utmost perfection making us feel so important. Commented from all friends and family early this morning and last night's end dinner. I would like to compliment your entire staff for being so professional. With smiles on their faces, they have been really very impressive in their service. And I would like to visit your hotel again for this outstanding experience. Specially thank Colin Wong (Food & Beverage Manager). Well done the job and you nail it. Tony
For many years we have always thought it would be nice to try out E&O. Due to circumstances we ended up staying here this time during our visit to Penang. If you like ‘colonial’ this is the place for you. The hotel has been decorated tastefully, and most of all maintained really well. No water marks, the white paint looks fresh and furniture doesn’t look tired. Dark wood against white walls and marble floors. Tasteful. Bedding was comfortable, and the bathroom you can literally fit a full sedan vehicle. Massive bathroom. Christoph the hotel manager was delightful. He came by to say hello while we were having coffee by the restaurant. Service was excellent. We had a little hiccup while checking in but nothing to suggest anything malicious. The team worked to resolve the problem and we ended up with a great two-night stay. Will return.
