Lush undulating hills of tea plantations back clusters of buildings that make up the city. Visit temples and monasteries and for a really spectacular view of Kanchenjunga (weather permitting), take a very early trip up Tiger Hill to watch the glorious vision of the mountain at sunrise.
Another of our favourite things to do here is a steam-powered joy ride on the nostalgic Himalayan Railway, or as it’s fondly known, the ‘Toy Train’. It was built in the 1800s and is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Gazing out at Darjeeling’s rich green landscape and snow-capped mountains is just such a wonderful way to see this enchanting town.
