Greece Multi-Centres
Multi‑centre holidays in Greece made simple – from Athens to the islands
When you’re after a little more from your holiday to Greece than just switching off with leisurely lunches over a fresh Greek salad, our answer is simple: see more, do more, travel more.
Greece is made for multi-centre and island-hopping holidays. What was once the territory of backpackers has evolved into one of the best ways to explore Greece – mixing islands means mixing beaches, scenery and landscapes, while still enjoying that famously warm Greek hospitality.
Start with Athens
For many, first stop is Athens – a city so rich in history and accolades, it’s almost a rite of passage. Named after the goddess of wisdom, it’s home to the Acropolis, the birthplace of democracy and the cradle of western civilisation. Spend three or four days here and you’ll have time to explore the highlights, the history, the myths and the legends and you’ll have earned some island time. From Athens, almost any multi-centre combination is possible, with easy connections by flight or ferry. Zante and Mykonos work well for their energy, scenery and variety.
Classic island pairings
Santorini and Mykonos are the original island-hopping duo – iconic, vibrant, and very well connected by regular ferries. The hype is justified and they’re not to be missed.
Quieter corners of Greece
If you’re looking for something a little more laid-back, head to the Sporades. Alonissos and Skiathos are where to head for the whitewashed buildings and blue-shuttered windows you picture when you think of Greece.
Unexpected combinations
Some of the best trips are the ones you didn’t initially consider. Take Corfu and Crete. It’s not an obvious pairing, but that’s exactly why it works. Corfu, in the north-west, is lush, compact and steeped in Venetian influence. Crete, Greece’s largest island, offers a completely different experience – bigger, more varied, and with a longer summer season thanks to its southern Med location. Both are rich in mythology, history and incredible beaches, each in different ways.
