Cabrits Resort & Spa is Dominica’s is owned and run by the high-end Kempinski, so you’ll get the luxury facilities you’re used to around the globe in one of the Caribbean’s least touristy places. Kempinski have made sure that the vibe is in keeping with the secluded natural setting – between the lush mountains of Cabrits National Park and the sparkling Caribbean Sea – with low-rise buildings, low-key bars and fresh farm-to-fork food. The resort has a contemporary Caribbean clean-lined design, with lots of light and a sense of place – even though this is a mid-size resort you’ll always know you’re in Dominica. For food, there’s the main restaurant, Cabrits Market, which has been designed to echo a traditional Creole market, plus a beach café, a lobby lounge for afternoon tea and two cool bars. Other facilities include a pampering treehouse-style spa, two tennis courts and a kids’ club. Every spacious guestroom has a balcony or terrace with views of Cabrits National Park or the Caribbean Sea and, if the resort’s four pools aren’t enough, you can upgrade to a suite with private pool. You’ll be encouraged to get out and explore the island during your stay and the resort’s 24/7 concierge will happily arrange local experiences. Excursions range from year-round whale watching to adventurous trips to hot springs and waterfalls. Cabrits National Park is right on the doorstep, so you can even walk to some of the island’s top hiking and snorkelling spots.
