California Cities & Hawai’i Hopping

Start among San Francisco’s sloping streets, soak up a whole week of island life as you cruise around Hawai’i, then wind things down in Los Angeles where Hollywood meets the beach.

Your adventure begins in effortlessly cool San Francisco, where independent cafés, waterfront walks, and that famous rust-red bridge create the perfect welcome. From here, fly to Honolulu to join Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America, the only ship sailing a dedicated Hawai’i itinerary year-round. Hop between Maui’s golden curves, Hilo’s tropical gardens, Kona’s warm waters, and Kaua‘i’s wild beauty. Wrap up your holiday on the West Coast with a relaxed stop in Los Angeles.

Trip notes

Before and after your cruise

This holiday gives you a brilliant contrast between Northern and Southern California. San Francisco feels creative and quirky, with mist rolling over the bay, bookshops tucked into side streets, and neighbourhoods with their own flavours. Los Angeles is a totally different experience: broad beaches, palm trees, sunshine, and a rhythm that is slow one minute and star-studded the next.

Trip notes

All eyes on Hawai’i

Hawai’i has become one of the most sought-after long-haul destinations, thanks to its mix of volcanic drama, lush landscapes, island traditions, and a climate that feels like summer all year. We’re seeing more and more couples and families choosing Hawai’i for its culture as much as its beaches, and visiting several islands gives you a much deeper sense of what makes the state so special.

Trip notes

NCL in Hawai’i

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America stands out because it is purpose-built for these islands. Instead of spending long days at sea, you enjoy extended time ashore — with overnights in Maui and Kaua‘i — giving you far more freedom to explore. It has flexible dining, a friendly atmosphere, and a route that avoids the hassle of inter-island flights. It is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to see Hawai’i’s highlights in one go.

Trip notes

After your cruise

If you’d like to break up the journey home from Los Angeles, we can arrange an optional stopover in New York. A night or two in the city is an easy way to reset between flights, wander through Central Park, grab a great meal, and finish your holiday with a final burst of urban energy.

Days 1 to 3

San Francisco

Fly into San Francisco and settle into your hotel. With three days here, you can really get a feel for the city. Watch the fishing boats bob on the bay, browse the stalls at the Ferry Building, or take a breezy walk along Crissy Field with views of the Golden Gate Bridge glowing in the distance. Ride a cable car just for the nostalgia of it, get lost among the murals of the Mission District, or sip coffee in North Beach like a local.

Day 4

Fly to Honolulu

A flight of around five and a half hours from San Francisco brings you to Honolulu and straight into warm island air scented with plumeria. You’ll have time to explore a little, perhaps a wander through Waikiki or a glimpse of Diamond Head, before boarding Pride of America, your home for the next week. With airy lounges, plenty of outdoor space, and décor inspired by the islands themselves, the ship is an inviting place to begin your Hawaiian journey.

Days 5 to 6

Kahului, Maui

Your first island stop is Maui, a place where golden beaches sit beneath a backdrop of towering volcanic slopes. With an overnight stay, you can explore at your leisure: wander through Lahaina, seek out a waterfall or two, enjoy fresh island produce, or simply relax on some of the softest sand in the Pacific.

Day 7

Hilo, Hawai‘i Island

Hilo is a world of tropical gardens, banyan trees, and vibrant markets. It has a gentler pace than many Hawaiian towns, making it perfect for wandering and discovering tucked-away cafés and galleries. Those craving adventure can head inland to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, where steam vents and lava fields tell the story of the island’s fiery origins.

Day 8

Kona, Hawai‘i Island

Kona brings sunshine and sparkling water, and it’s the kind of place where you immediately want to dive in. Snorkel among colourful fish, sip Kona coffee grown on the slopes above town, or simply stretch out on the beach and enjoy the view.

Days 9 to 10

Nāwiliwili, Kaua‘i

Kaua‘i greets you with emerald cliffs, cascading valleys, and some of the most impressive scenery in Hawai’i. Spend your time admiring the dramatic coastline, exploring small towns, or heading inland to discover the island’s famous green canyons and lush trails. With a long stay here, you can really appreciate the calm, natural beauty that gives Kaua‘i its nickname: The Garden Island.

Day 11

Los Angeles

Return to Honolulu to disembark, then fly to Los Angeles, landing in time to enjoy a warm West Coast evening. Whether you head straight to the beach or into the city, LA’s easygoing energy is the perfect post-cruise contrast.

Days 12 to 13

Los Angeles

Spend two days settling into life in Los Angeles. Wander the wide sands of Santa Monica, dip a toe in the Pacific at Venice Beach, or head into the city for galleries, rooftop bars, or a stroll along Hollywood Boulevard. LA is a place where you can fill your days to the brim or take them as slowly as you like.

Day 14

Los Angeles

It’s time to leave California and head back home. But you don’t have to go directly to the UK if you want to carry on the holiday – you could stop off in New York City for a few days en route.
