Trip notes

Before your cruise

Your journey begins with two nights in Ho Chi Minh City at the Caravelle Saigon, a landmark hotel in the heart of District 1. This is your chance to settle in, sip a rooftop cocktail above the skyline and dive into the city’s intoxicating mix of French colonial boulevards, buzzing markets and mouthwatering street food before embarking on your river adventure.

Trip notes

On the Mekong

Cruising lets you slip off the main track and see a side of Indochina many never see. Glide into villages like Cai Be, wander the romantic streets of Sa Dec or watch water buffalo plough the fields on Evergreen Island. In Cambodia, meet copper artisans in Koh Chen and silk weavers on Koh Oknha Tey. The Mekong is a river of surprises, and each stop offers an authentic glimpse into daily life.

Trip notes

Immersive insight

Travelmarvel’s Insider Experiences include a traditional Buddhist blessing in Oudong and a tuk-tuk tour of Koh Pen, winding through stilted villages shaded sandalwood trees. Optional extras let you tailor the journey to your taste, from Khmer cooking workshops and Phnom Penh by cyclo to craft beer or gin tastings and a photography tour of Angkor’s temples.

Trip notes

After your cruise

Round things off with three nights in Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor, where sunrise temple visits and jungle-wrapped ruins are yours to explore. Afterwards, ease into holiday mode with a beach break. In our winter, head to Koh Rong, where turquoise waters and barefoot luxury await. Year-round, you can choose Danang with its golden sands and proximity to lantern-lit Hoi An.

Days 1 to 3

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The adventure begins in Ho Chi Minh City, where scooters stream through the streets. Take time to explore the boulevards and backstreets, sample steaming bowls of pho and soak up the heady energy of Vietnam’s largest city.

Day 3

Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho to Cai Be, Vietnam

My Tho is where you’ll meet your boutique home for the next seven nights. Each suite has a balcony, so you’ll never miss a Mekong moment.

Day 4

Cai Be to Sa Dec to Tan Chau, Vietnam

Board a sampan and glide through Cai Be’s floating market, visit a coconut candy workshop and see local churches. Later, in Sa Dec, wander lively markets.

Day 5

Tan Chau to Border Crossing to Phnom Penh

Explore Tan Chau’s silk workshops and rickshaw lanes, then step ashore on Evergreen Island to see buffalo ploughing fields and village life unchanged by time. Spend the afternoon cruising into Cambodia.

Day 6

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

A morning visit to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is moving and unforgettable. The mood lifts with the grandeur of the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.

Day 7

Oudong & Koh Chen, Cambodia

Next is Oudong, Cambodia’s former royal capital, where you will take part in a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony with resident monks. Later, stop at Koh Chen, known for its copperware, before returning to Phnom Penh.

Day 8

Phnom Penh to Koh Oknha Tey to Angkor Ban

Cruise to Silk Island by tuk tuk, where traditional looms clatter and Khmer fabrics are woven by hand. The afternoon is for river views, a swim or simply lazing on the sun deck.

Day 9

Angkor Ban to Koh Pen to Kampong Cham

In Angkor Ban, wander through wooden stilt houses and a pagoda spared by the Khmer Rouge. Later, take a tuk tuk around Koh Pen before returning for a farewell dinner on board.

Days 10 to 12

Kampong Cham to Siem Reap

Disembark and drive through Cambodia’s countryside to Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor Wat. With three nights here, you can immerse yourself in Angkor’s temple complexes. See sunrise over Angkor Wat, wander through the tree root temples of Ta Prohm and marvel at the giant stone faces of Bayon.

Day 13

Siem Reap

Finish your temple adventures and head to the airport for your journey home.

Extend your holiday

Koh Rong, Cambodia or Danang, Vietnam

Why not ease into beach mode post cruise? From October to March, you could fly to the untouched island of Koh Rong. Year-round, the alternative is Danang on Vietnam’s central coast, with Hoi An close by.
