Uga Halloowella
Height of luxury in the rolling tea hills
Uga Halloowella is a mood-booster. The gentle coolness of misty skies, big mountains, tiny tea leaves and a lake that could have been cut from crystal.
You’ll be referring to Uga Halloowella as one of your greatest finds long after you get back. This place is designed to delight. Somersaults of fancy flowers, butlers on tap and an eye popping terrace tumbling down to Castlereigh Reservoir. The estate has all the hallmarks of great taste and an infinity pool that could win a design award in its sleep. From the sunny deck you can waft straight into the water for a swim with one of the best views we’ve ever seen. Meals are chef’s kiss good, staff are as warm as an embrace and the six photo-ready bedrooms are harbingers of joy; soft palettes, claw-foot baths and those butlers anticipating your every need. Rooms
All six rooms capture the authenticity of your location, designed in a whole array of glorious colours. All manage to be spacious and ornate whilst also feeling serene and private. Each room features a walk-in shower and butler service. The Lane Suites, named after the original owners Royal Air Force pilot Major Elton and his wife Violet Lane, sleep up to two adults and two children. Special touches included fresh flowers, beautiful wardrobes and a knock your socks off bathroom. They’re also the only suites with a separate living room and Reservoir views. The Pekoe and Planter’s Suites, just as charming and with pretty garden views, sleep up to three people.

Fresh produce straight from the highlands and onto your plate means you get great taste at every turn. And the setting is as beautiful as the food. Dine indoors or out on the terrace, at a marvellous large table if you come with the whole tribe and at thoroughly romantic spots for two if you want the romance of privacy. Breakfast on the terrace is a fabulous way to start the day and an evening with the Sri Lankan Discovery menu means you get to try everything from iconic hoppers to east coast sour fish curry. The estate also puts on garden dining and a unique Sri Lankan afternoon tea experience.

Uga Halloowella has an outdoor infinity pool, a heated jacuzzi and spa treatments which can be booked in-room or at the garden gazebo.
The siren call of Castlereigh’s lake invites you to kayak, canoe and clink Champagne glasses on its banks. Some people continue the adventures climbing Adam’s Peak and joining stage 7 of the Pekoe Trail whilst others stay on the estate for lounging, daydreaming and lingering lunches. There’s also Balinese massage, afternoon teas and Ceylon arrack and board games in the drawing room.
