 C Rodrigues Mourouk

Castaway and colourful

On the wild south coast of Rodrigues Island, C Rodrigues Mourouk sits wide open to the elements. It’s a low-key, fun-loving hotel where constant trade winds, big skies, and uninterrupted sea views set the tone from the moment you arrive.

Overlooking a vast lagoon that’s consistently rated among the top kite surfing spots in the world, C Rodrigues Mourouk attracts a mix of adventurous spirits, laid-back families, and people who simply like places that feel open, authentic, and a little far flung. The feel is boutique and a touch rustic, with a decisively playful streak running through it. Look closely, and you’ll spot upturned crates doubling as seats, light shades upcycled from rice sacks, and flip-flops reimagined into wall art, all signs that this is a place that takes its surroundings seriously, but itself rather less so.

Why we love C Rodrigues Mourouk

  • The setting is wonderfully wild. Remote, wind-swept, and rated among the world’s best for kite surfing, yet still welcoming for families

  • The design feels playful and personal, with quirky, upcycled details that give the hotel character and charm

  • Upgrading to a Beachfront Room transforms the stay, giving you knock-out views and a reason to linger on your terrace

  • It balances activity and downtime beautifully, offering just as much for energetic kids and active adults as for those who want to do very little

Food shares the same unfussy island spirit as the rest of the resort. Sails anchors the day with an upbeat breakfast and relaxed dinners built around fresh fish, Creole flavours and seasonal produce, while the Salty Cabri Beach Shack covers lunch, snacks and tea with casual, come-as-you-are energy near the water. Most evenings taper gently into sunset drinks, but Saturdays shift gear with Sessions by the C, when a playlist, sand underfoot, and cocktails in hand turn the bar into an early-evening dance spot.

Sails

The main restaurant runs as a buffet, with generous breakfasts and relaxed evening spreads centred on fresh island flavours and an easy, communal feel.

Salty Cabri Beach Shack

Steps from the water, the beach shack stays informal with light plates and snacks that suit long lunches and late-afternoon grazing between swims.

The Bar

All day, the bar works as a natural meeting point, gradually turning into a sunset cocktail spot.

Lounge Sunset Session

Oriented toward the best views, the sunset lounge is quieter and more atmospheric, made for slowly sipped drinks and watching the lagoon change colour.

Wellness and fitness at C Rodrigues are built around staying active in ways that feel sociable and outdoorsy rather than gym-bound. The free programme ranges from aqua gym, Zumba and group yoga sessions to beach tennis, volleyball and pétanque, with an outdoor health track for anyone who prefers to move at their own pace.

C-Trek is a guided 2.5-hour coastal walk along one of Rodrigues’ most striking stretches of shoreline, giving a grounded sense of the landscape at an easy pace. The hotel also runs the C Food Tour, a culinary outing built around traditional flavours and local stops that link what you taste to the island’s culture.

Water is the real calling card here. C Rodrigues’ lagoon is windy and wide open, known in kite circles as one of the standout spots in the world, and the Boathouse and Kite Club makes it approachable with proper lessons and on-water support that takes the edge off the learning curve. From the same stretch of beach, you can windsurf, snorkel, and kayak, all run with a hands-on setup that feels organised without killing the fun. There’s also an on-site dive centre for exploring below the surface, plus off-site fishing trips.

Sustainability at C Rodrigues is practical, with visible efforts tied closely to the island itself. The hotel partners with the Bluer Ocean Project to support lagoon restoration, funding coral planting with each reservation. Behind the scenes, there’s a steady push to reduce single-use plastics, prioritise local sourcing and keep recycling simple, alongside water desalination and reuse systems that ease pressure on local supply. Solar energy covers water heating and part of the power load, while the grounds are planted with native plants suited to the climate and that protect local biodiversity.

The resort has a MiniClub for children aged 3 and up, with an indoor play space, games, and supervised outdoor activities, plus on-demand babysitting services (extra charge). There’s plenty of space to move around, and water sports and beach access keep older kids engaged. Accommodation options include rooms and larger villas that make it easy for families to stay together comfortably, and food is family-friendly with choices that tend to appeal to both adults and little ones. It’s best suited to families with energetic kids who are happiest outside, exploring, playing, and in the water, rather than those looking for high-gloss kids’ clubs or constant, structured entertainment.
