Dining options are excellent – for bold Mediterranean flavours, choose the Rose Garden restaurant, or for something special, you have Madeira’s first two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Il Gallo d’Oro. Chef Benoît Sinthon combines fresh local ingredients to create a fabulously aromatic menu. After dinner, it’s time for a Madeira Night cocktail and live music at Cliff Bar.

Il Gallo d'Oro was the first restaurant in Madeira to be awarded a Michelin star and offers an authentic taste of Iberian cuisine with produce sourced from the hotel's organic garden.

The spa is the perfect place to unwind. Relax in the sauna and Jacuzzi, or indulge in the delicious range of treatments, massages and body wraps. Therapies include holistic massage, advanced facials, body wraps, aromatherapy massage, zen massage, reflexology, lymphatic drainage, manicure and pedicure.

Enjoy traditional afternoon tea on the terrace, with the possibility of an accompanying violinist or make your own way into the centre of Funchal.

Take the lift down from the clifftop and make your way to the sunbathing platform by the hotel’s jetty to enjoy views across the bay to Funchal, or there’s direct sea access for swimming and snorkelling.

All Portobay Hotels have pledged to annually increase energy efficiency, reduce water consumption and give preference to regional produce. The Cliff Bay’s restaurant, Il Gallo d’Oro, has a Green Star for sustainability in gastronomy.

The hotel offers discounted green fees at the Palheiro Golf Course and Santo da Serra Golf Course (high season).
