 Masseria Montenapoleone

Fancy farm stay

A historic fortified Masseria where the garden keeps the kitchen stocked up and the olive oil is made on site.

Masseria Montenapoleone sits among Puglia’s ancient olive groves just outside Fasano, with the Adriatic coast a short drive one way and the whitewashed towns of the Itria Valley the other. Originally a fortified farmhouse from the 16th century, it’s been restored in a way that keeps all the good bits intact, thick stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and that sort of timeworn furniture that has stood the test of time. Days tend to start slowly over breakfast and drift between the pool, gardens, and countryside, with meals shaped by whatever’s been picked from the organic gardens that morning.

Why we love Masseria Montenapoleone

  • The kitchen keeps things deliciously close to home, with produce coming straight from the gardens in an organic, farm-led approach.

  • Olive oil is produced from olives picked on the estate, pressed from groves that include centuries-old trees and even some said to be over a thousand years old.

  • The restoration has real personality, with reclaimed pieces and authentic fittings that keep it characterful.

  • The Junior Suites sleep up to four and have a more proper suite layout, which is something of a rarity in a historic masseria this authentic.

Eating here is built around the organic restaurant and seasonal produce, with ingredients pulled from the gardens and estate whenever possible. There are also a few different spaces for eating and drinking depending on the season and mood, so it doesn’t feel like you’re stuck doing every meal in the same room. Expect a farm-to-table feel rather than formal fine dining: simple, local, and at its best when you pick whatever’s in season.

La Falegnameria
Traditional Apulian cooking served in what was once the masseria’s carpenter’s workshop, now a characterful restaurant and bar beside the pool, with large communal tables and creative details made from reclaimed tools and materials.

The Winter Garden
A glass-walled garden space with bougainvillea and cacti with a slightly Provence-style feel.

La Stalla
The former stables now serve as the breakfast space, where guests can sample the masseria’s home produce, from house-made jams and dried-fig flans to cheeses, seasonal fruit, and local cured meats.

Pool Bar
Drinks, juices, and cocktails made with freshly picked seasonal fruit are served by the pool, keeping things relaxed between swims and lazy afternoons in the gardens.

What's Included

Breakfast at La Stalla

The Herbarium offers an extensive menu of holistic treatments* inspired by local plants, flowers and fruits, with massages and botanical extracts designed to restore both body and mind. Treatments can also include time in the masseria’s Time Tub, an outdoor soaking bath overlooking the orange grove, created as a quiet pause before or after therapies. There’s also a ‘rural gym’ set among ancient olive trees, where workouts come with wide views across the countryside towards the Adriatic. Beyond that, much of the reset comes from the setting itself: quiet mornings, long swims in the pool, and time spent wandering the gardens and groves in the kind of calm that only really exists out in the countryside.

Activities here tend to revolve around food and the rhythms of the farm. Hands-on cooking classes dive into Apulian tradition, with guests learning to shape pasta like orecchiette, cavatelli, or strascinate from scratch. Olive oil tastings led by the estate’s farmer-sommelier often begin with a stroll through the groves, followed by a sampling of the masseria’s organic oils alongside local bites like taralli and focaccia. Wine tastings include a walk through the vineyard before sampling the estate’s own Susumaniello. There are also relaxed outdoor experiences woven into the week, from vineyard aperitivos and dinners under the stars to picnics set up in quiet corners of the estate.

This is one of the more family-friendly masseria setups because the suites give you space. Junior Suites sleep up to four, and Family Suites go bigger (two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, plus a living room that can take additional people), which makes multigenerational or large family stays much more realistic. There’s also a playground for running off excess energy.
