 The Marine Hermanus

The home of land-based whale watching

This classic hotel has a stunning clifftop location that's perfect for whale watching

Standing on dramatic clifftops in central Hermanus, The Marine’s spectacular setting is one of the best land-based whale-watching locations in the world. It exudes old-world charm with its classic white façade and fresh, seaside-inspired interiors. In whale-watching season between June and November, it's a beautiful base for looking out for the majestic creatures in the water from the public cliffside path fronting the hotel or even from your bathtub in some rooms.

Why we love The Marine Hermanus

  • During the whale watching season, you can sometimes see and hear the whales from your bed

  • There's a tidal pool which is reached by a few steps and a popular spot for swimming within yards of the whales

  • You are just a short walk from the art galleries, shops and restaurants of Hermanus

  • If you are staying over a weekend, browse the stalls of the Saturday market where you'll find tempting local produce and handmade crafts

The Pavilion
Open for breakfast and dinner, you can dine indoors in the monochrome interior, at the poolside courtyard or on the terrace overlooking Walker Bay.

The Sun Lounge and Bar
Open from 11am until 5pm, this is a great spot for lunch, afternoon tea and evening cocktails, all served with a backdrop of ocean views.

The seafood platters at The Pavilion combine the freshest ocean flavours including grilled prawns, calamari and the daily catch of the bay.

What's Included
