Day 1

Nairobi

Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time, there may be time to visit an elephant orphanage, the Giraffe Centre or you can get into Out of Africa mode with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. There's plenty to see and do in Kenya's capital so we can arrange extra nights for you if you wish. Overnight Fairmont The Norfolk.

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Nairobi

On this tour you’ll have the chance to meet orphaned elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The trust was set up over 40 years ago by Daphne Sheldrick in memory of her husband David, who was a famous warden and naturalist in Tsavo East National Park. It has developed into the most successful rescue and rehabilitation programme for elephants in the world, with many of the babies released back into the wild in Tsavo after about three years of rehabilitation.

At around 10.00am you’ll transfer by private vehicle to Nairobi National Park, arriving at the centre for the 11.00am feeding. The elephants know when it’s time to have their milk and come running down into the feeding area. As the keepers feed them, a guide from the trust will introduce you to the individual elephants and tell you their rescue stories. You’ll get to ask questions while the animals play.

Visiting will give you a chance to get up close to the elephants, learn about the wildlife trust’s work and contribute to the conservation of these incredible animals. As well as helping orphaned elephants and rhinos, the trust works on anti-poaching initiatives, habitat protection and runs mobile vet clinics. Following the visit, return to your hotel.

Karen Blixen Museum

Nairobi

Visit the Karen Blixen Museum to learn about the Out of Africa author’s extraordinary life in Kenya. The museum is set in the Karen area of Nairobi, which is named after Blixen, on the coffee farm where she once lived. A lot of guests want to visit the museum because they’ve read Out of Africa or seen the movie. They find her story very intriguing – she really put Nairobi and Kenya on the map and was passionate about helping the local community.

You can visit throughout the day between 9.00am and 4.00pm and hotel transfers will be arranged for you. Most guests spend around an hour at the museum. You’ll also get to walk around the property and beautiful grounds, which have a view of the Ngong Hills. It’s fascinating to see some of the old coffee plantation equipment, Karen’s paintings and the study where she used to write.

The museum is a piece of Kenyan history and an amazing tale of how one person survived so many bad things and still had the heart to be kind to those around her. After the visit, you’ll transfer back to your accommodation in Nairobi.

Day 2

Maasai Mara

After breakfast, take a light aircraft to Maasai Mara National Reserve. Start your wildlife adventure with a short drive from the airstrip to Governors’ Camp where you’ll stay in a safari tent by the Mara River for four nights. The unfenced camp allows grazing animals to roam freely through the area. Overnight Governors' Camp.

Scenic Flight over the Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara

Stretching from Ethiopia, across Kenya to Mozambique, the vastness of the Great Rift Valley is best experienced from the air. On this scenic light aircraft flight, you will see its dramatic gorges cutting through the plains of Africa, aerial views over the famous Maasai Mara and the wildlife-rich haven of the Mara River.

Carrying just 13 passengers, you will be flying in a Cessna Caravan, which are very good for short take-offs and landings and function well at high elevation. From your bird's eye view, you may see the circular kraals where the Maasai keep their cattle. As the landscape unfolds, look out for herds of elephant, zebra and gazelles as they graze the open plains. During the Annual Great Migration, between July and October, you may get to see wildebeest crossing the rivers in vast numbers. Even when the migration isn’t happening, the Musiara airstrip attracts all kinds of animals because it's set near the river. So, right before landing, you might see an ostrich to the right side, an elephant to the left and straight ahead there may be a herd of topi - the perfect welcome to the Maasai Mara.

Days 3 to 5

Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara boasts one of the world's densest populations of wildlife, and you have three full days to explore. While the area is justly renowned for its big cats, it’s also an exceptional spot to observe elephants, giraffes, zebras, hyenas and warthogs. If you visit during the dry season from June to October, you'll witness the spectacular Great Migration, as more than two million wildebeest sweep across the plains in search of fresh grasslands. Between game drives, unwind at your camp and savour delicious meals either in the dining tent or outdoors. Overnight Governors' Camp.

Explore the Maasai Mara - an African icon

Maasai Mara

Home to one of the world’s highest concentrations of wildlife, the Maasai Mara is a land of wide-open savannahs where cheetahs seek vantage points atop termite mounds, elephants roam and million-strong herds of wildebeest thunder across the plains during the Annual Great Migration.

A visit to the Mara is all about revelling in the daily routines of this wildlife-rich haven. It’s about waking in your tented camp before dawn watching the sunrise warm the plains. It’s about bumping along in a 4×4, binoculars in hand, on a quest to spot the Big Five: the spear-horned buffalo, parades of elephant, lions lounging in the marshlands, the elusive leopard and endangered rhino. It’s about savannah sundowners and falling asleep to the sound of hippos snorting in the Mara River. Then there’s the Maasai people. Just as iconic as the Mara’s big cats, these nomadic, scarlet-robed pastoralists have roamed the Maasai Mara for centuries with their sacred cattle and today, often welcome visitors into their villages for a glimpse of traditional life.

Bush dining in the Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara

There's something quite special about dining al fresco, especially when you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature of the Maasai Mara. Whether it’s a breakfast watching the wildlife start to stir in the early morning, lunch in the shade of an acacia tree or dinner under the stars, the camp will select a very special location in the bush.

Serving freshly prepared and locally inspired dishes, the team take care of everything from initial set up and service whilst keeping a watchful eye for any curious animals. The bush dining experience is perfect for celebrating a special occasion and this private experience will provide memories to last a lifetime.

Day 6

Maasai Mara & Nairobi

While staying at Governors’ Camp, you have the chance to experience an exciting hot-air balloon safari that offers a completely different view of the Maasai Mara. You’ll wake up early to watch the balloon being prepared, then gently rise into the sky with the sunrise. Watch the changing colours over the savannah while animals wander below. After your unforgettable journey, enjoy a lavish Champagne breakfast set up where your balloon lands. Alternatively, you can take your final morning game drive before flying by light aircraft back to Nairobi where you will spend the night. Overnight Fairmont The Norfolk.

Governors’ Balloon Flight

Maasai Mara

Take to the skies on the Governors' optional hot-air balloon safari, where you’ll watch the sunrise over the Maasai Mara and get an aerial view of African wildlife. You’ll lift off around 6am in time to see the sunrise from the balloon, painting the sky in buttery shades of orange.

At that time of day, the grazing animals are just waking up. Elephants are munching in the forest, hippos are heading back to the river and the trees are filled with birds. It’s particularly busy during the Annual Great Migration when massive herds of wildebeest roam the plains. Governors’ has the best flight path in the region, drifting along the Mara River above beautiful riverine forest where rhinos graze, before ending in the open savannah where you might see giraffe, zebra and lion. Guests love the serenity of the balloon ride and the fantastic opportunities for photography. You’ll also have the chance to drop seedballs from the balloon, as part of a conservation scheme to replant indigenous African olive trees. At the end of the hour-long flight, the balloon will land near a bush breakfast site where tables are set up under trees in the middle of the savannah. Here you’ll enjoy a lavish breakfast spread including eggs, sausages, pancakes, fruit, muesli, and of course Champagne. It’s a laid-back, picnic-style feast where your pilot will share bush stories and explain the history of ballooning in the Mara.

Day 7

Nairobi & Seychelles

Today you will be transferred back to the airport for your flight to the Seychelles. You will be met at Mahé airport and driven 30 minutes to the jetty. Arrive in style with a 45-minute speedboat ride to Silhouette Island. Surrounded by a national marine park and tropical rainforest, Niva Labriz is the only resort on the island. Overnight Niva Labriz.

Days 8 to 10

Seychelles

Spend your days relaxing on the beach, snorkelling and diving the coral reefs or hiking through the forest along nature trails. Learn about the biodiversity of the island with a talk by the Island Conservation Society or uncover the secrets of Creole cuisine with a cooking lesson. Sunset cruises are the perfect way to end your day. Overnight Niva Labriz.

Day 11

Depart Seychelles

Perhaps take one final morning yoga session on the beach before transferring back to Mahé for your return flight to the UK or we can arrange extra nights at Niva Labriz or elsewhere in the Seychelles if required.
