Dertour Foundation Donation
Travel has the power to create lasting, positive change – for people, places and nature. That’s why we’re actively involved with DERTOUR Foundation UK, a registered charity created by our parent company, DERTOUR Group.
The Foundation provides funding and works with trusted partners on education, equality and nature conservation initiatives worldwide, ensuring tourism benefits local communities and their surroundings long after your holiday ends.
Featured projects
When you donate to the DERTOUR Foundation UK, your contribution goes directly to initiatives that make a measurable difference. These programmes are carefully chosen to focus on the areas of greatest need and deliver long‑lasting global impact.
Here are just a few examples:
Connecting people and reefs in the Maldives
The Maldives' coral reefs face increasing pressure from climate change and local stessors. Working with the Oceancy and Diamonds Athuruga Resort, the Foundation helps train local youth in reef restoration and environmental care. The programme combines education, practical restoration work and scholarships, enabling local communities to protect these vital marine ecosytems.
Empowering women as rickshaw drivers in India
India has one of the lowest female workforce participation rates in the world. The Lake City Rickshaws scheme in Udaipur – an extension of Jaipur’s Pink City Rickshaw programme – provides women with eco‑friendly vehicles and driver training. With 20 women already qualified, this venture opens up jobs in a traditionally male‑dominated industry while promoting cleaner tourism transport.
Mangrove Conservation in Sri Lanka
Healthy mangroves are crucial for Sri Lanka’s coastal regions, storing carbon, protecting shorelines and supporting wildlife. The DERTOUR Foundation works with the Wildlife and Ocean Resource Conservation team to replant mangroves in the Koggala Lagoon, with 15,000 trees planted so far, offsetting 6,000 tonnes of CO₂. The project also provides local jobs and offers low‑impact tourism experiences, including non‑motorised catamaran trips.
Know One to Teach One in Vietnam
Young women from ethnic minorities in Vietnam often have limited access to education and employment. The “Her Turn” programme, run by the Know One, Teach One (KOTO) Foundation and funded by the DERTOUR Foundation, delivers vocational hospitality training at the KOTO Restaurant in Hanoi. Every graduate secures employment on completion, reducing vulnerability to exploitation and improving economic independence.
