On Broadway in downtown Portland, wine-themed Kimpton Hotel Vintage Portland is an excellent base for city explorations. There’s originality to the hotel that suits this city down to the ground.

Wine is a thing here. Along with a nightly hosted wine hour, each floor is dedicated to a Willamette Valley winemaking area, and each room is named after a local winery. Inside, cork-lined walls continue the wine theme, together with a bottle of vino from the room’s namesake winery. Never at risk of being considered boring, the rooms feature street-style art, scarlet couches, and industrial fittings.

If you’re not in the mood for a glass of the local Pinot Noir, the lobby bar, Bacchus Bar, serves a killer cocktail list alongside an Italian-inspired bar menu. Next door, there’s Italian comfort food awaiting in Il Solito, the hotel’s restaurant.

The adult game lounge is an unexpected touch. The board games, pool table, and consoles risk eating into your out-and-about time exploring the Portland Art Museum or Lan Su Chinese Garden nearby. Once you’ve made your way through the back catalogue of PlayStation games, borrow a hotel bike and head a little north to the Pearl District for hipster hangouts and boutique shopping, or east to reach the riverside trail.
