 Jungle Camp at Elephant Hills

Glamping amid giants

A tented camp on the edge of stunning Khao Sok National Park where you can pack your stay with epic adventures.

Elephant Hills is a Thailand institution and the Jungle Camp is at its heart. The setting is an absolute jaw dropper – in the shadow of limestone karts and right by the river – and it’s a superstar addition to any Land of Smiles trip. The vibe here is casual and unhurried but with so much to do. One minute you’ll be taking a cooling dip in the small pool or sipping a drink overlooking the river and the next you’ll be setting off to see the elephants or taking a guided river trip via canoe. Nightly slumbers are in comfort under canvas and thatched roofs, and communal meals are served buffet style. The dishes are full of flavour, wonderfully varied (Thai and Western) and there’s plenty to go around.

Why we love Jungle Camp at Elephant Hills

  • There are two-, three- and four-day Jungle Safaris to choose from, as well as trips that include a day or overnight visit to the glorious Lake Camp.

  • Your time here will be filled with included experiences – with an elephant camp visit, a canoe safari and a jungle hike as a minimum. The longer you stay, the more you do.

  • Days at the Jungle Camp run like clockwork as you go from the lodge to the elephant camp to the river and lake camp (if included) – it’s a truly seamless experience.

  • The activities are fuelled by exceptional food. Meals are served buffet style in the open-air (but covered) dining room; there’s a real mix of local and international dishes.

Just outside the southern reaches of Khao Sok National Park, on the Sok River.
Approx. 2½ hours’ transfer from Khao Lak, 3½ hours from Phuket, 5 hours from Krabi and 5½ hours from Koh Samui (including ferry); approx. 2 hours transfer from Surat Thani

Elephant experience
Included on 2-, 3- & 4-day Jungle Safaris and 3- & 4-day Jungle & Lake Safaris

Meet the trunked residents that give Elephant Hills its name on this ethical encounter. It begins with a briefing and intro video and continues as you prepare and feed them their favourite snacks.

Canoe safari
Included on 2-, 3- & 4-day Jungle Safaris and 3- & 4-day Jungle & Lake Safaris

Sit back and follow the Sok River’s winding path in inflatable canoes as the guides keep you moving and an eye out for riverside wildlife. The backdrop of limestone karsts is scenically spectacular and gives serious Jurassic Park-meets-Middle Earth vibes.

Jungle trekking
Included on 2-, 3- & 4-day Jungle Safaris

Soak up the rainforest sights and sounds as you take a steady walk through one of the world’s oldest jungles. Your guide will set the pace and be on the lookout for plants, birds and monkeys. No two hikes are the same.

Explore the mangroves
Included on the 4-day Jungle Safari and 4-day Jungle & Lake Safari

Khao Sok’s winding network of coastal mangrove channels are the focus of this immersive experience. You’ll travel along the ancient waterways in a motorboat, take lunch on a traditional Burmese junk boat and have the chance to self-paddle through a mangrove-lined creek.

Cheow Lake visit
Afternoon visit included on the 3- and 4-day Jungle Safari; overnight visit included in the 3- and 4-day Jungle & Lake Safari

The highlight of the longer Jungle Safaris is the visit to the floating camp on Khao Sok’s Cheow Lake, Here, you can swim in the lake, use the canoes or stand-up paddleboard, or just chill on the deck and take in the epic views. For more info on the activities included on the Jungle & Lake Safaris, check out our dedicated Lake Camp page.
