 La Residence

A fitting homage to the ‘French corner’ of South Africa

This award-winning wine estate in Franschhoek is a secret fairytale chateau.

Beyond the unassuming exterior, you’ll find yourself transported into a fairytale manor house at this 30-acre wine estate. Surrounded by fragrant wisteria, grapevines and mountains, the regal French chateau style provides a sophisticated base for exploring the Winelands. The service here is unbelievably personalised. The estate is well acquainted with Condé Nast’s prestigious Gold List and Travelers’ Choice Awards, and guests return again and again for the attention to detail that shows as staff anticipate your every need before you do.

Why we love La Residence

  • The bold colours, textures and extravagant décor could easily slip into the pages of an interior design magazine

  • With its impeccable, discreet and personalised service, guests return time and time again

  • Ask for a tour of the South African art that fills almost every surface of the hotel with over 150 pieces on display

  • Sample some of the estate’s popular Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or Rosé

The Great Hall is the main dining area at La Residence, where guests can feast on seasonal dishes from produce mostly grown on the estate. There’s a sumptuous buffet and a hot menu for breakfast and wine stewards are on hand to recommend pairings from the comprehensive wine list. There’s a popular high tea, or you can drink in Franschhoek’s vineyard views out on the patio.

What's Included

Breakfast at the Great Hall

Spa treatments take place in the double treatment room, in the privacy of your suite or in the Tea House overlooking the tranquil setting of the ornamental pond.

For wine tastings, you can choose to have a relaxed affair or something more spectacular, with options including the famous Franschhoek Wine Tram, a low-key visit to local wineries or a helicopter tour. Explore the estate by standard or e-bike, browse the art galleries of Franschhoek or see the vast collection of classic cars and motorbikes at the Franschhoek Motor Museum.

La Residence has always supported a number of local community projects. Their kitchen team work with a non-profit organisation to feed up to 200 people a week, through the Avela Foundation help children with burn injuries and the donate to the Cape Leopard Trust to help protect the animals and their habitat.

Families are accommodated in the spacious Vineyard Suites. Little ones can join junior Masterchef classes, learn how to flower arrange, feed the resident ponies or join a family bike ride around the estate. We love the concept of The Parent's Night Out where the children will be taken care of by the Activities Team whilst their parents can go out for the evening.

Guests aged 10 and over are welcome in the Luxury and Superior Suites.
