Mangia’s Torre del Barone Resort & Spa

Sea views and Sicilian sunshine

Perched above a long sandy beach on Sicily’s south-west coast, this resort keeps the sea in sight and the pace pleasantly slow.

Mangia’s Torre del Barone sits between Mediterranean woodland and open water, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, palms and pines that frame the coastline below. The hotel itself is modern and spacious following a major renovation in 2023, with bright interiors, broad terraces and wide views across the Mediterranean. Most of the resort’s rooms face the sea, which gives the whole place a strong sense of openness. The resort balances high-end wellness with a wide choice of sports and family-friendly facilities, so you can keep things active or simply switch off by the water. You could happily spend a full week within the grounds, though Sicily’s temples, vineyards and coastal towns are close enough for day trips if curiosity kicks in.

Why we love Mangia’s Torre del Barone Resort & Spa

  • A sweeping coastal setting surrounded by olive trees with wide Mediterranean views, where the sea rarely leaves your line of sight.

  • There’s a long sandy private beach just below the hotel, easily reached by lift or a gentle walk through the gardens.

  • A modern spa inspired by Sciacca’s historic thermal water tradition, with indoor pools and space to properly unwind.

  • One of the more family-friendly resorts on Sicily’s south-west coast, with free kids’ clubs, sports facilities, and a long sandy beach just below the hotel.

There are several places to eat across the resort, ranging from a relaxed buffet restaurant serving Mediterranean and international dishes to more focused spots specialising in Italian favourites such as pizza and seafood. You can keep things casual with lunch by the pool or take a table on a terrace overlooking the sea as the sun drops into the Mediterranean. Bars are dotted around the property too, so an afternoon spritz or a late evening cocktail never requires much effort.

Mediterra Restaurant
The main restaurant is buffet dining, centred around classic Mediterranean flavours and grilled dishes and served in a bright setting that makes the most of the resort’s sea views.

Al Grano Pizzeria
A relaxed restaurant dedicated to authentic Italian pizza, where classic ingredients and freshly baked dough take centre stage.

Calm Beach Bar
A beach bar on the resort’s private adults-only beach, perfect for a drink or laid-back pause between sea, sun and sunset views.

Lime Pool Bar
A poolside stop for cold drinks, light bites and the sort of lazy pauses between swims that stretch easily into the afternoon.

Kaigan Sushi Bar
A Japanese-inspired restaurant where Italian ingredients and Japanese culinary techniques come together in a more contemporary dining experience.

The wellness offering is one of the resort’s highlights. Inside, you’ll find a heated indoor pool inspired by Sciacca’s thermal water heritage, along with sauna, hammam and treatment rooms for massages and beauty therapies. There’s also a gym if you want to keep up a fitness routine. Outside, the main swimming pool sits on an elevated terrace with wide coastal views and plenty of loungers, making it just as tempting to stay there as to head down to the beach.

There is plenty to do here if you like to keep yourself busy on holiday. The wider resort complex includes tennis courts, padel courts, and five-a-side football pitches, while the sea offers options such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. With live music and DJ sets in the evening, along with the Sunset Ritual, there’s more of a social side to resort after dark.

On the resort’s private stretch of beach, a handpicked collection of water sports invites guests to explore the ocean in their own way. Glide across calm waters on a paddleboard, kayak along the shoreline, set sail on the breeze or discover vibrant marine life while snorkeling.

All experiences are overseen by an expert team, with options suitable for every level — from gentle introductions to more adventurous sessions. Guests can enjoy complimentary use of selected equipment each day, while a full programme of guided activities, lessons and extended experiences can be reserved for an additional charge.

Mangia’s Torre del Barone Resort & Spa has been recognised by BREEAM for its environmental sustainability performance. This certification reflects the resort’s commitment to monitoring and improving its environmental, social and economic impact.

Families are well catered for here, with a free kids’ club and junior club offering supervised activities for younger guests, plus play areas and indoor spaces where children can spend time between beach and pool sessions. Older children and teenagers can make use of the wider sports facilities across the resort complex, including tennis, padel and outdoor games. Babysitting services can also be arranged for parents who want an evening to themselves.

The long sandy beach and large pools naturally become the centre of the day, while spacious rooms that can sleep up to four guests make it easy for families to stay together. Just note that the kids’ club operates most days of the week but typically closes one day (usually Friday), and access to the spa facilities is restricted for guests under 18 unless accompanied by an adult.
