Just below Taormina’s ancient Greek theatre, this garden-filled hillside hotel looks straight out across the Ionian Sea.
Taormina has plenty of glamorous addresses, but the Ariston feels pleasantly unfussy. The hotel sits among layered Mediterranean gardens on the slope just outside the historic centre, where terraces step down the hillside and the sea fills the horizon. The town itself is close enough that you can wander in whenever you feel like it. In fact, a few minutes’ walk brings you to the Greek theatre and the start of Corso Umberto, where Taormina’s shops, restaurants and gelaterias line the streets. Back at the hotel, things stay calm. Gardens, wide terraces and sea views give it a sense of space that’s surprisingly rare in such a popular town.
Why we love Hotel Ariston
-
You’re close enough to stroll into Taormina whenever you like, yet the hillside setting feels calm and leafy once you’re back.
-
The terraced gardens and sea-facing balconies make the most of one of Sicily’s most beautiful coastal views
-
The pool area is a welcome reset after wandering Taormina’s lively streets
-
Sunset drinks on the terrace with the bay stretching out below quickly become a daily ritual
Rooms
Rooms are simple, bright and comfortable rather than design-led, with many offering balconies that look out across the Ionian Sea. A Superior room with a sea-view balcony is our recommended choice, as it brings the bay into view from the moment you wake up. Triple rooms are also available, making the hotel a practical option for small families.
Facilities
Breakfast is generous and relaxed, usually taken with the terrace doors open to the morning air. Dinner follows a similar easy rhythm, with Sicilian and Mediterranean dishes served in a bright dining room that opens out towards the sea. During the warmer months, lunches and lighter dishes move outdoors, while the bars around the hotel provide an easy spot for a mid-afternoon coffee or a sunset aperitivo before heading into town.
Pirandello
The central dining spot for buffet breakfasts and relaxed evening meals with Sicilian and Mediterranean dishes served in a bright room opening onto sea-facing terraces.
Le Terrazze
A seasonal outdoor restaurant serving grilled dishes and lighter lunches with sweeping coastal outlooks.
Lounge Bar
A comfortable indoor space for coffee, aperitivo hour or an after-dinner drink, often accompanied by live piano music in the evenings.
Pool Bar
The easy stop for cold drinks and light snacks between dips in the pool or long afternoons on a sun lounger.
What's Included
Breakfast at Pirandello
Relaxation here revolves around the gardens and pool terrace rather than a formal spa. The outdoor pool sits among palms and greenery with plenty of sun loungers, making it a pleasant place to spend a slow afternoon. There’s also a whirlpool alongside a small outdoor fitness terrace where you can stretch or work out while looking across the bay.
Families tend to use the Ariston as a base for exploring Taormina rather than staying entirely within the hotel. The pool is a welcome break for younger guests after sightseeing, and the short walk into town makes spontaneous evening outings for pizza or gelato wonderfully easy.
