Want Campania sunshine with the Amalfi Coast as an easy day trip option, plus a beach-and-pool base that keeps the rest of the week feeling uncomplicated? This is that plan.
Esplanade Boutique Hotel sits on the Cilento coast at Paestum, south of Salerno, where the shoreline is sandy and the mood is relaxed. There’s an elegance to this hotel. Think garden paths, a big pool scene, and a short pinewood walk to a private beach area, with the UNESCO-listed Greek temples of Paestum close enough to do on a ‘let’s go now’ whim. It’s the kind of place that suits people who like the Amalfi Coast as a highlight reel (a day out, a boat ride, a long lunch with a view) but want their actual base to feel calmer, flatter, and easy to explore from.#/#
Why we love Esplanade Boutique Hotel
-
It gives you that classic Italian beach break rhythm (spritz, shade, sea, repeat).
-
Paestum’s temples are nearby, so you can get a proper culture fix and still be back in time for a swim.
-
The setting feels villa-like and green, with gardens, Vietri-style ceramic details, and a pool that’s very good at stealing whole afternoons.
-
Amalfi is doable for a day trip, but you’ve also got Beach Club 93, Holos Spa, and Tre Olivi nearby when you’d rather keep things local.
Rooms
Rooms keep things classic and comfortable rather than ultra-designy, with balconies overlooking the gardens and pool area. This is a stay where you’ll likely spend time outdoors, so balcony rooms feel like the sweet spot for late afternoon downtime and post-beach towel logistics. #/#
Facilities
Dining here is split between the hotel’s own restaurant for breakfast and evening meals, and a couple of nearby options that are part of the wider Esplanade experience. If you feel like making an evening of it, Michelin-starred Tre Olivi is close by for a special night without needing to head out into town, while Beach Club 93 (open May to September) covers relaxed lunches and sea-day snacks when you’re down by the water.

Wellness here extends beyond the hotel itself, with access to nearby Holos Spa when you feel like swapping beach time for something slower. Inside, there’s an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath, salt cave, and relaxation areas designed for a proper switch-off hour, plus treatment rooms offering massages and body therapies. It’s the sort of setup that works well after a morning out at the temples or an afternoon on the beach.
Paestum is the obvious star. The archaeological park is close enough to do without turning your day into a marathon. For a food-focused detour, Caseificio Barlotti is well known locally for buffalo mozzarella, and Amalfi Coast towns are doable as a day trip when you want the famous views.
You can also visit the San Salvatore 1988 vineyard, known for its own wine, olive oil, and buffalo mozzarella. Enjoy tastings, cookery classes, and guided tours showcasing traditional production processes.
Beach days revolve around Beach Club 93, the hotel’s private sandy beach setup reached via a short walk through the pinewood. Expect loungers, umbrellas, towels, bottled water, and a beachside bar for easy lunches and drinks between swims.
