 Golden Rock Inn Nevis

Sugar estate and secret garden

If you want to spark a little romance, chase some rainforest adventure or get a nature fix (hello tree frogs and Talipo palms) this is the place to do it.

On the slopes of Mount Nevis the world is a little softer. Golden Rock Inn, tucked up in a 100-acre estate, is shared with ginger lilies, green vervet monkeys and hummingbirds singing their own little songs. Owned by two New York artists, it’s a hip, heartfelt retreat and a living gallery of colour, art and greenery. Pair it with a beach hotel for a twin centre holiday that’s one-of-a-kind. With just eleven rooms - from a dreamy garden cottage to the old sugar mill two-storey suite carved in ancient cut stone - it’s perfectly private. The views are knockout (see over to Montserrat on a clear day), the spring-fed pool is like a cool breeze after a jungle hike and The Rocks restaurant is something to write home about - fresh, flavourful and a local’s favourite for the food and views.

Why we love Golden Rock Inn Nevis

  • Chef honours the island. One bite of The Rocks lobster sandwich and you’ll get it. Book for golden hour.

  • Most paths lead to rare plants, beautiful birds, cheeky monkeys. There’s a trail from the Inn straight into the wilds of Nevis Forest.

  • Look one way and it’s that famous mist-covered mountain. Look the other, and its glass-like Caribbean Sea.

  • Cool air rolling through open shutters has you going back down the mountain glowing.

Arty, historic and colourful, The Rocks is an island gem of open terraces and sea views. Dine privately in the pavilion, beside cascading ponds and in garden nooks. There are different decks for every mood and even a small cave-like bar under a vaulted stone ceiling. Designed by Aman hotels architect Ed Tuttle, The Rocks blends grey volcanic stone with bold pops of the owner’s signature red.

The Rocks

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Rocks serves up birdsong at breakfast, sea views all day and stars at night. The menu is Caribbean-inspired and the burgers and lobsters are the talk of the island.

What's Included

Breakfast at The Rocks

Wellness is slow and serene. No big spa or studios. Just treatments that come to you. Massages can be requested in the gardens or in your room. Yoga sessions can also be booked. For wellbeing in nature, there are botanical tours with the head gardener or an easy 20-minute sea view drive down the mountain to the naturally heated hot springs on the southwest side of Nevis.

It's rainforest adventure up here but when the sea calls, you’ll be there in under half an hour by car. Once on the coast, you’ve got paddleboarding, windsurfing, snorkelling and kayaking. For divers, there are gentle introductions to reefs and wrecks and deeper dives for pros.

Rare plants are given space to breathe and grow. Wildlife thrives. The spring-fed pool runs on pure mountain water instead of unnatural chemicals and the higher altitude means a cool breeze, so air-con is eschewed in favour of ceiling and floor fans. And The Rocks sources local. From farms, gardens and the sea.

Whilst there isn't a schedule of activities for kids, this place isn’t just for couples. Nature is the family playground. Butterfly and monkey spotting. Dipping in the spring-fed pool. Following trails into the forest or touring the blooms right on your doorstep. It’s a stellar choice for families who want to slow down and reconnect, or to pair with a beach hotel too.
