St Kitts & Nevis Holidays

What keeps these islands under the radar - depth, authenticity and boutique hospitality - is exactly what makes them stand out.

Meet St. Kitts and Nevis - the Caribbean islands with just two and half miles of sea between them. Want heart, heritage, flavour and soul on your holiday? These tiny specks of green in the eastern Caribbean are it. Mountains rising from the sea. Rainforest and rum shacks on the ground. Soca, salt and sugarcane in the air. Together they’re the best of both worlds. St. Kitts - the livelier one - is for adventures that remind you you’re alive. Reef, rainforest, island rum and the summit of Mount Liamugia. Across The Narrows, Nevis, smaller and greener, is for balmy dips in geothermal pools and old plantation houses reborn as hip hotels.

HOW TO HOLIDAY IN ST. KITTS & NEVIS

Tourism is a relative newcomer - only about two decades in - which means St. Kitts & Nevis still feel deeply Caribbean. If you want more than infinity pools and all-inclusives, these are your islands. If you love to dig into a place, its people and its stories this is your holiday.

Do both in one trip for a mix of energy and escape. Settle into one and hop across the water for a day to taste the other. It’s less than half an hour by boat. Or do a week in Antigua or Barbados first, where the luxury resort scene - yachting, fine dining and white sand beaches - pairs perfectly with the volcanic beauty of St. Kitts and Nevis.

There’s plenty of adventure to go around, even if you all fancy doing different things. Kayaking and killer sunsets. A sleeping volcano and scenic railway route. Horse riding and hot springs. Monkey spotting at the Four Seasons or getting friendly with fish in coral gardens. There’s polish too. St. Kitts is home to the Caribbean’s only Park Hyatt and on Nevis, hotels like Golden Rock Inn and Montpelier Plantation give you the luxury of location and old sugar mill stories.

WHY TRAVEL TO ST. KITTS & NEVIS WITH KUONI?

Because we don’t do ordinary holidays. Every trip is composed around what you want and what rhythm you want to move at. All tailormade. Slow mornings, secret snorkel coves and shaking sand off your towel all day. Or rainforest climbs followed by swim, sip and repeat in resort. Holidays for when you don’t want to move a muscle and holidays where you go-all-in on adventure. Sometimes both, in fabulous contradiction. And that’s the rhythm on St. Kitts & Nevis.

Our on-the-ground agents ensure everything runs smoothly and you get the best support, and we’re here whenever you need us. We know how to make your budget go further - like travelling in St. Kitts & Nevis’ shoulder season of May to June, when hotel rates drop but the weather stays beautifully warm. And we’ve also got a knack for the extra extras - multi-centre holidays that change the way you travel: Antigua and Nevis, Barbados and St. Kitts or one island and two different hotels for new views and experiences in each.

THE ST. KITTS EXPERIENCE

Getting there

British Airways flies to St. Kitts twice a week. The flight takes just under nine hours, with a short stop in Antigua which you’ll stay on the plane for, before landing at Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in St. Kitts. Or make the most of that stop and spend a few days in Antigua first. You can also reach St. Kitts from Barbados, New York or Miami with regular connections. Tell us where you want to start, and we’ll get you there.

Salty souls

Coming for sun and salt at least half of the time? St. Kitts has black-sand Atlantic Ocean beaches (North Frigate Bay and Sand Bank Bay) where you’ll meet wind and much wilder waves and also golden Caribbean Sea ones (Frigate Bay South, Cockleshell Bay and South Friars) where the water is calm and the snorkelling is often great. If you love shallow reefs, rum punch sunsets, sailing the coast by catamaran or even riding horses along the shore, these are your moments.

Top experiences beyond the beach

The island nicknamed Sugar City is all sweet bread, birdsong and soca. But if you want more than sand in your shoes, you’ve come to the right place. Rainforest? It’s abundant. Once hacked back to grow sugarcane but now benefiting from protected status, it’s expanding again. Mile upon mile (it takes up a quarter of the island) of monkey mayhem and misty skies. Take a hike or two among the birds and butterflies.

How about sugar cakes served as you loop the coast on an open air train? Travelling on the same railway that was used to transport sugarcane, this one is all about the views as you cruise. Open air carriages framed by sky and sea.

If you’re in the mood for military history with magnificent sea views, Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park will make your list. This is history up high and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you prefer nature turned fierce, the climb to Mount Liamuiga’s summit, the island’s dormant volcano and highest point, is where the views from the crater rim are worth the step count.

St. Kitts is quieter than Caribbean islands like Antigua and Barbados. You’ll find nightlife on The Strip on Frigate Bay (live bands, beach bars and Ting on tap) but it’s all super relaxed and sandy-toed.

The hotels you’ll want to hang out in

For honeymooners, couples and lovers of rooms with a view
Sunset Reef sits above the sea and gets you views of Nevis. With only seven suites, it’s oh so quiet. And the sunsets stop the conversation.

For social butterflies, group get-togethers and busy bee families
St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Spa is full of life. Beach, pools, restaurants. And an all-inclusive option that lets you switch off completely.

For couples and cool kids
The Park Hyatt St. Kitts is stylish. You’re on Banana Bay and you get bucket loads of comfort. Families fit right in (there’s a free activity each day for kids) and couples love the luxury, and the suite with the private rooftop pool.

THE NEVIS EXPERIENCE

Getting there

You’ll follow the same journey to St. Kitts, where our friendly ground team will meet you and guide you to the right quay for your water taxi to Nevis. Boats leave from Reggae Beach or the Park Hyatt and glide across to Oualie Bay in Nevis all through the day. Want to make it extra special? We can arrange a private charter to take you over to Nevis. Once you arrive, our Nevis team is waiting to whisk you off to your hotel.

Barefoot and on the beach

Pinney’s Beach is the one you’ll want to make footprints on. Mount Nevis views, three miles of golden grainy sands, calm Caribbean Sea and fisherman pulling in their nets. It’s classic Caribbean. Oualie Beach is another family favourite. Clear, shallow waters, an easygoing beach bar scene and plenty of local life going on around you. Kayakers, snorkellers, paddleboarders and water taxis all take off from here. Then there’s Lover’s Beach, at the northern tip of the island. Atlantic facing and total solitude. Nevis behind you. Wild wild waves in front of you. Made for windswept walks and sea turtles in season. Also made for romance with no one else around.

Nevis beyond the beach

Hot springs and horse riding. Yacht charters across The Narrows and yellow-bird spotting (those little and bright bananaquits flitting between the hibiscus). Nevis is deliciously laid back and local. It’s magic among the mango trees (44 varieties here) and delighting in having no particular place to be. Nevis attracts the quietly curious and the unhurried, who aren’t so bothered about ticking off big attractions. If you like to move your muscles, climb the volcano (Nevis Peak) rising from the centre of the island. It’s a one-of-a-kind rainforest ascent. If you like to soak your muscles, dip into the natural thermal pools sitting right by the sea in Charlestown.
Nevis is for taking in heritage and history at your own pace; Charlestown’s 18th century architecture, the birthplace of Alexandra Hamilton and old sugar estates that are now small hotels and restaurants. Rock up for dinner, even if you’re not staying. Friday night Mexican at Mount Nevis Hotel and Thursday night barbecues and sunsets at Montpelier Plantation. Quiet adventurers, sunset-seeking couples and families keen o grounded and genuine fun all love Nevis.

The hotels you’ll want to hang out in

For those that want something different
Golden Rock Inn proves it’s cool to be away from the coastline. Owned by New York artists, this former sugar estate in the jungle foothills is all colour, character and discovery. Sea views through the trees, gardens a botanist would go crazy over and a restaurant you’ll write home about.

For being in the heart of the action
Oualie Beach Resort is right on the sand, right in the thick of the adventure and super casual and friendly to boot. It’s also where the water taxi drops you off from St. Kitts, so if you’re doing a two-island holiday, it’s a great choice.

For history and design lovers
Montpelier Plantation, once an 18th century sugar estate, is now a boutique hotel. Fine dining, stone walls and old sugar-boiling pots. But also a high-above-the sea hideaway with a private beach, Mount Nevis views and the luxury of being unrushed.
