Canadian Contrasts
Buckle up for a coast-to-coast coach tour with big views, bold cities, and plenty of wow-worthy stops.

Over two weeks and three time zones, this guided coach tour of Canada travels across the country from east to west. It all kicks off in lively Montreal with a mix of history and university buzz, before Quebec City brings cobbled streets and old-world charm to the party, plus the chance to chase whales or waterfalls. From there, it's off to Ottawa for canals, markets, and a sweet stop at a sugar shack, then down to big, bold Toronto with a side of misty Niagara magic. A quick hop west lands you in Calgary, gateway to the Rockies, before you wind through those sensational peaks and dazzling lakes in Banff and Canmore. There are glacier walks, soaring highways, and even a floatplane (if you're keen) as you roll into Whistler. The grand finale? Vancouver. A mix of glass towers, salty air, forest trails, and a fabulous food scene.
Itinerary overview
Day 1
Montréal
You’ll arrive in Montréal and make your way to your hotel in the heart of the city, where your tour director will be ready to greet you and get things rolling. Once you’ve checked in, the rest of the day is yours. You might fancy a relaxed stroll through the nearby neighbourhoods, grab a bite of something French and flaky, or simply unwind after your journey. You’ve got two nights in your Montréal hotel. Overnight at Hotel Faubourg Montreal or Hotel Le Cantile Suites (or similar).

Day 2
Montréal
Today, you’ll properly get to grips with Montréal on a guided tour. From the buzz of downtown to the old-world streets of Old Montréal, the Olympic complex, Mount Royal’s leafy views, and the university quarter, you’ll see how this city wears many hats (and wears them well). You’ve got the option to dive into the Biodome, where penguins and parrots share the spotlight, or wander the Botanical Gardens, complete with themed trails and more plants than you could count in a week. You’ll stay another night in Montréal. Overnight at Hotel Faubourg Montreal or Hotel Le Cantile Suites (or similar).

Day 3
Québec City
You’ll leave Montréal behind and follow the scenic St Lawrence River along the Chemin du Roy, a historic route that winds through quiet villages and open farmland. The coach journey to Québec City takes around three hours, excluding stops. Once you arrive, you’ll join a walking tour through the walled old town, with its grand gates, cobbled lanes, and the vast green lawns of Battlefields Park. You’ll spend the next two nights in Québec City, the heart of French Canada. Overnight at Hotel Palace Royal or Hotel Pur (or similar).

Day 4
Québec City
Today’s all yours. You can spend the day wandering through the city’s historic corners, browsing its shops and bakeries, or just sipping coffee somewhere with a good view. Want to go bigger? Join the optional day trip to Tadoussac and head out on a whale-watching cruise where the Saguenay and St Lawrence Rivers meet. On the way back, you’ll stop at Montmorency Falls, which is taller than Niagara. You’ll return to Québec City in time for a relaxed evening. Overnight at Hotel Palace Royal or Hotel Pur (or similar).

Day 5
Ottawa
This morning, you’ll head west towards Ottawa, following the Ottawa River. The drive from Québec City to Ottawa takes around five hours, with a scenic stop at a traditional sugar shack for a maple tasting and a peek at how syrup is made the old-fashioned way. Once you reach Canada’s capital, you’ll take a guided tour of key sights, including Parliament Hill, the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal, ByWard Market, and a mix of green spaces and historic buildings. Overnight at Sheraton Gatineau or Chateau Cartier (or similar).

Day 6
Toronto
You’ll make your way to Toronto today, travelling through peaceful countryside and lakeside towns. The whole journey from Ottawa to Toronto takes around four and a half hours, with a break in Rockport, where you can choose to take a boat cruise through the Thousand Islands, a jumble of wooded islets and tucked-away cottages. When you arrive in Toronto, the evening is yours. You might visit a gallery, explore a lively neighbourhood, or head up the CN Tower for a citywide view. Overnight at Courtyard Toronto Downtown (or similar).

Day 7
Niagara Falls
You’ll start the day with a tour of Toronto’s top sights — the provincial parliament, the waterfront, and a few of its colourful districts. In the afternoon, you’ll head out to Niagara Falls, which is about an hour and a half away by coach. You’ll pass vineyards and lakeside towns along the way. Once there, you’ll have time to explore on your own or take an optional boat ride for a dramatic, up-close view of the falls. After the visit, you’ll return to Toronto for your final night. If you're on the 7-day itinerary, your tour will end today with a drop-off at your hotel or the airport. Overnight at Courtyard Toronto Downtown (or similar).

Day 8
Calgary
You’ll check out and make your way to the airport in time for your flight to Calgary. You’ll arrive in Calgary and make your way to your hotel in the city centre. There’s no rush today. Once you’ve checked in, what remains of the day is yours. You might fancy a short wander, a bite to eat, or just a chance to unwind after your flight. Your tour director will be in touch by late afternoon to say hello and go over what’s ahead. Overnight at Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown (or similar).

Day 9
Canmore
After breakfast, you’ll join your fellow travellers for a guided tour of Calgary, where gleaming towers meet prairie history. You’ll see the Calgary Tower, Fort Calgary, and the bustling commercial district before setting off by coach for the mountains. The journey to Canmore takes around 90 minutes, passing through the foothills as the Rockies rise dramatically in the distance. Before arriving, you’ll dip into Banff National Park to admire Bow Falls, Tunnel Mountain, and the fairytale-like Banff Springs Hotel. You’ll reach Canmore by late afternoon and settle in for two nights. Overnight at Coast Canmore Hotel or Pocaterra Resort & Spa (or similar).

Day 10
Banff National Park
Today is entirely yours to decide what to do. You might take it slow with a stroll through Banff Avenue’s shops and cafés or join an optional full-day excursion to the Columbia Icefield. If you choose the excursion, your day begins with a visit to the exquisite Lake Louise, followed by a journey along the Icefields Parkway. This scenic drive is a highlight of the region, with its soaring peaks and hanging glaciers. At the Columbia Icefield, you’ll board a specially designed vehicle and head right onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. You’ll return to Canmore in the late afternoon. Overnight at Coast Canmore Hotel or Pocaterra Resort & Spa (or similar).

Day 11
Kamloops
Today’s journey along the Trans-Canada Highway is one of the longest on the tour, but also one of the most scenic. You’ll spend around seven hours on the road, crossing from Alberta into British Columbia through Kicking Horse Pass. This high mountain pass sits on the Continental Divide and has long been a key route through the Rockies, first for the railway and now for cross-country travellers. The climb is steep in places, offering wide-open views of the surrounding peaks. From there, the road winds through Yoho and Glacier National Parks, where thick forests, deep valleys, and fast-moving rivers stretch out in every direction. You’ll carry on through the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain ranges, passing quiet valleys along the way. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Kamloops and settle in for the night. Overnight at Prestige Kamloops or Quality Inn Kamloops or Prestige Aberdeen (or similar).

Day 12
Whistler
After breakfast, you’ll set off towards Whistler. The drive takes around five and a half hours and comes with a noticeable shift in scenery, as dry ranch land gives way to coastal mountains. You’ll arrive with plenty of time to explore the alpine village, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you might opt for a floatplane tour over Garibaldi Provincial Park, where you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of volcanic peaks and sparkling alpine lakes. The rest of the day is yours to soak up the mountain air and enjoy the relaxed village vibe. A favourite for outdoor lovers, Whistler is all about crisp air, alpine views, and easy access to nature. But even if you’re not hitting the trails, there’s plenty to enjoy in the village itself. Overnight at The Listel Hotel Whistler or Aava Whistler (or similar).

Day 13
Vancouver
This morning, you’ll travel along the spectacular Sea-to-Sky Highway. The drive takes around two hours, but you may wish it were longer, with its panoramic views of fjords, waterfalls, and forested cliffs. Once in Vancouver, you’ll take a guided city tour. Highlights include Stanley Park, the totem poles at Prospect Point, English Bay, Chinatown, and the historic cobbled streets of Gastown. The afternoon is yours to discover more of what this coastal city has to offer, perhaps returning to your favourite places from the tour. Overnight at Sandman Hotel City Centre or Sandman Suites on Davie (or similar).

Day 14
Vancouver
You’ll have the whole day to enjoy Vancouver at your own pace. You could browse the boutiques on Robson Street, sample fresh food at Granville Island Market, or relax in Stanley Park. If you’re up for something more active, you might ride the gondola up Grouse Mountain or take an optional full-day trip to Victoria. That tour includes a scenic ferry crossing, time to explore the provincial capital’s harbour and historic buildings, and a visit to the world-famous Butchart Gardens before returning to Vancouver for the evening. Overnight at Sandman Hotel City Centre or Sandman Suites on Davie (or similar).

Day 15
Vancouver departure
It’s time to pack up and say goodbye. You’ll make your own way to Vancouver International Airport in time for your return flight.
