Day 1

Calgary

You’ll arrive in Calgary and head to your hotel, with the evening free to settle in and unwind. The city has a welcoming, down-to-earth feel, where the wide-open prairies meet a modern skyline. There’s no need to explore straight away, as tomorrow includes a guided tour to help you get your bearings. Your tour director will be in touch later today with everything you need to know. Overnight at Delta Calgary (or similar).

Day 2

Banff National Park

After a morning tour of Calgary’s highlights, you’ll set off west towards the Rocky Mountains. The coach journey takes just under two hours, but as the flat prairie gives way to the peaks, it feels like a real shift in pace and place. By early afternoon, you’ll arrive in Banff National Park and check into your hotel in the town, where alpine scenery, fresh mountain air, and natural hot springs hint at what’s to come. You’re here for two nights. Overnight at Elk & Avenue Hotel, Mount Royal Hotel, Banff Ptarmigan Inn, Hotel Canoe & Suites or Otter Hotel (or similar).

Day 3

Banff National Park

Your day starts with a guided morning tour of Banff and its beautiful surroundings. You'll visit Bow Falls, take in the views from Surprise Corner, and stop at scenic lookout points around Tunnel Mountain. After that, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You might choose an optional helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view of the Rockies or ride the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for sweeping valley views. There's also time to relax in the Banff Upper Hot Springs, browse shops and galleries along Banff Avenue, or take a stroll by the Bow River. Active types can rent a bike or join a guided hike. However you spend it, this is a day to experience Banff on your terms. Overnight at Elk & Avenue Hotel, Mount Royal Hotel, Banff Ptarmigan Inn, Hotel Canoe & Suites or Otter Hotel (or similar).

Day 4

Jasper National Park

Today’s route takes you along the spectacular Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic drives in the world. The journey to Jasper takes around five to six hours, with stops to stretch your legs and take in the views. You’ll pause at Lake Louise to see its striking turquoise waters, then continue through a corridor of glaciers, mountain peaks, and wide-open valleys. At the Columbia Icefield, you’ll board a specially designed vehicle for a ride onto the surface of the ancient Athabasca Glacier. It’s a place where the air feels crisp and the scale of nature really sinks in. By evening, you’ll arrive in Jasper for a two-night stay. Optional evening activities include stargazing at the Jasper Planetarium or enjoying a local stage show. Overnight at a selected Jasper hotel (or similar).

Day 5

Jasper

You’ve got a full day in Jasper, with a few different ways to make the most of it. If you’re after something active, there’s the option to join a guided raft trip along the Athabasca River, where gentle rapids and calmer stretches offer a fresh perspective on the surrounding wilderness. Your guide will share stories about the area’s landscape, wildlife, and early explorers as you float along. Prefer something a little quieter? You could take a leisurely cruise on Maligne Lake, known for its clear waters and striking mountain views. Or, if food’s more your thing, there’s a relaxed walking tour that takes in some of Jasper’s best bites, mixing local favourites with international flavours. Overnight at a selected Jasper hotel (or similar).

Day 6

Kamloops

Today, you swap road travel for rail as you board the Rocky Mountaineer for the first of two extraordinary days on board. As the train pulls out of Jasper, you settle in and watch the scenery unfold. Towering peaks give way to forests, rivers, and broad valleys, all visible through panoramic windows. The pace is relaxed, with onboard hosts sharing stories about the landscapes and wildlife along the route. Breakfast and lunch are served on board, and there’s time to stretch your legs or take in the views from outdoor viewing areas. It’s a chance to slow down and take in the quiet thrill of crossing such a vast, remote part of Canada. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Kamloops and transfer to a local hotel for the night. Overnight at a hotel used by Rocky Mountaineer.

Day 7

Vancouver

It’s another day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, and the views just keep coming. Today, the train winds through the steep rock walls of the Fraser Canyon, where the river roars below, then rolls into the green patchwork of the Fraser Valley. Watch for bald eagles circling overhead as you get closer to the coast. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Vancouver and head to your hotel, where you’ll be based for the next two nights. Overnight at Sheraton Wall Centre (or similar).

Day 8

Vancouver

Your day begins with a guided tour of Vancouver, a city known for its mix of urban buzz and natural beauty. You’ll take in highlights like Stanley Park with its coastal trails, the beaches of English Bay, the historic charm of Gastown, vibrant Chinatown, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which stretches high above a wooded canyon. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. You might browse the food stalls at Granville Island’s public market, walk or cycle along the seawall, visit one of the city’s galleries or museums, or simply relax in a local café and watch the world go by. Overnight at Sheraton Wall Centre (or similar).
