 The Sundays

Easy, breezy island living

This is where that unhurried, sun-warmed feeling of a Sunday morning lasts all week.

The Sundays sits at the quieter northern end of Catseye Beach, so you’re close to everything but away from the main resort buzz. It’s on the smaller side (just 59 rooms) and the first new hotel on Hamilton Island in almost twenty years, which explains why it feels so fresh. Australian designer Carrie Williams led the revamp, keeping things simple and well-judged with natural stone, timber, and soft coastal tones. The result’s relaxed but considered, more beach house than resort. You can walk to the marina and restaurants in ten minutes, then come back to a spot that feels calm, open, and genuinely easy to be in.

Why we love The Sundays

  • The scale feels right. You’re not lost in a resort, but you’re not on top of anyone either. There’s space to breathe, swim, and switch off properly.

  • he design gets the balance right between simplicity and purpose. Breezy walkways, shaded terraces, and pale stone floors keep things cool, while big windows and open layouts draw in the sea light and views.

  • Families are brilliantly looked after. Some rooms have a bench that converts to a child’s bed, there’s baby gear ready if you need it, and the kids’ club runs creative activities that make use of the island — from shell collecting on the beach to mini reef walks.

  • The team make the stay. They’re warm without being overfamiliar, full of local knowledge, and have a knack for being there exactly when you need them.

The food here is unpretentious, seasonal, and well-executed. Start your morning with breakfast by the pool and a menu built around Queensland produce — think mangoes, fresh juices, and eggs done just right. As the day unfolds, light lunches and relaxed dinners take centre stage. And if you’re keen to explore, you’re a short stroll from the marina, where Hamilton Island’s best restaurants and bars make it easy to mix up your routine without ever leaving the shoreline. Of course, you’ve always got the option to stay put and order room service.

Catseye Pool Club

You can spend lazy afternoons by the main island pool, with cocktails, light bites, and a soundtrack that drifts between easygoing and just lively enough to keep you there a little longer.

What's Included

Room only

It’s easy to recharge here without thinking about it. Start the morning with a swim, a beach walk, or a kayak on the bay, then spend the afternoon by the pool or on one of the island’s scenic walking trails. There’s a small gym if you want to keep your routine going, but the setting does most of the work.

The hotel sits right at the northern tip of Catseye Beach, so you’re only steps away from complimentary paddleboards, kayaks, catamarans and snorkelling gear. The beach is calm and well-equipped, and if you’re keen for more you can book reef tours and sailing trips from the nearby marina in the Whitsundays.

The Sundays was built with its environment in mind. The design maximises light and ventilation to reduce energy use, materials are locally sourced where possible, and waste reduction is a daily focus.

This is one of those rare hotels that’s genuinely family-friendly without feeling like it’s been taken over by children. Rooms connect easily, cots and highchairs are ready when you need them, and the beach is just beyond the gardens with calm, shallow water for paddling or snorkelling. The pool’s big enough for all ages, and there’s a playground and café nearby for easy mornings. The kids’ club runs half-day sessions for ages six months to twelve years, so you can get a few quiet hours knowing they’re having a good time too.
