Japan Discovery

Ramen & Roaming

With its shrines, temples, long-held traditions and neon-lit nightlife, Japan’s a hot ticket. Hop from city to city by sea and see more in 12 nights than you could ever experience on land alone. Your cruise leg is aboard the ever-popular Celebrity Millennium®, originally launched in 2000 (and refurbed bow to stern twenty years later) and remains a favourite thanks to her slightly smaller size and standout crew.

Trip notes

Before your cruise

Spend your full day in Tokyo seeing different sides to the city: the modern Shibuya ward, the pop-culture focused Akihabara district and more traditional Asakusa where craft shops and historic temples can be found. End the day with some street eats along Nakamise-dori arcade which sits in the shadow of the iconic Sensoji Temple or making the most of the lively, neon-lit Shinjuku.

Trip notes

Japan made easy

A cruise is an unrivalled way to see Japan for first-timers or returnees. You’ll only unpack once but get to experience such diverse ports. Japan provides amazing flavours on land, while back on board you’ll find a fusion of destination-inspired dishes and home comforts. It’s also a great-value way to explore as Japan is one of the most expensive countries to travel around on your own.

Trip notes

Across to Korea

Popping over the East Sea to South Korea is common on a Japan cruise and buzzing Busan is the gateway to the country’s beautiful coastline. One of the region’s highlights is the jaw-dropping Haedong Yonggungsa, a sacred Buddhist temple which is perched on a rocky outcrop just metres above the sea. You’d be hard pushed to find a more stunningly situated temple.

Trip notes

After your cruise

The flight home from Tokyo is a long one so it’s understandable if you’d be up for a break along the way. With Middle Eastern airlines like Emirates linking the UK and Japan, its really easy to just add on a few days (or longer) in Dubai. You have the pick of our featured UAE hotels – from icons on The Palm to seafront retreats just steps from Jumeirah Beach.

Days 1 to 2

Tokyo, Japan

Your first stop is Tokyo, Japan’s frenetic-with-a-purpose capital, where’ll you’ll be based for a couple of nights at a city hotel.

Day 3

Tokyo, Japan

Head to the port and board Celebrity Millennium®, your home for the next 12 nights as you sail around the south and west coasts of Japan.

Day 4

At sea

As you travel to Kyoto, there’s a day at sea to get your bearings on board and your sea legs.

Days 5 to 6

Kyoto/Osaka, Japan

The first port of call is Osaka. From here, you can choose to stay put and explore Dotonbori, the epicenter of Osaka’s food scene, or head in land to Japan’s cultural capital, Kyoto. Here, you can take a stroll through Gion, the famous Geisha district. Or why not do both as you’ll be staying overnight?

Day 7

Kochi, Japan

Bijou but heritage packed and oh-so friendly, Kochi is a world away from Japan’s more famous cities. Stop off at beaches, reflect at temples and marvel at the wonderfully preserved Kochi castle.

Day 8

At sea

Sample what’s on offer at the spa or just chill poolside as you cross the Sea of Japan (or East Sea).
