Day 1

Cape Town

Hello South Africa. Today you’ll be getting to know Green Point suburb, set along the Atlantic Seaboard, where you’ll be based for a few days. This place is a magnet for mums, dads, kids, solo parents and multi-gen travellers: it’s trendy, packed with cafes, delis and restaurants and has a fab park and promenade. A local representative will be welcoming you at the airport ready to transfer you to your apartments along the waterfront. Then it’s onto the good stuff, exploring with your fam. A dip in the pool. A V&A Waterfront stroll to see the catamarans and yachts. A sunset cruise. When in Cape Town you’ve got to get on a boat, and this is the perfect time.

Day 2

Cape Town

So many options for each of your days here. Feel like you’re part of the jet set crowd and get on board a helicopter flight on the Twelve Apostles tour, perfect if you're travelling with thrill-seeker teens. Keep the action going hopping on the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain. The ride up is rollicking good fun for everyone (check out the cable car’s rotating floor for amazing ocean views) and only takes five minutes (great for little ones).

Helicopter flights: 12 Apostles - 12 minute flight

Cape Town

Take to the skies on a thrilling helicopter flight over Cape Town. This 12-minute flight is the perfect introduction to the city.

Taking off from the V&A Waterfront you will fly for 12 minutes over the Atlantic, passing Green Point Stadium and the City Bowl. Along the way, your pilot will point out the city's famous landmarks including Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles range and Robben Island.

Day 3

Cape Town

Today you might want to soak up sun, sands and good vibes. Tell the kids it’s a myth that penguins only like cold weather. Then tell them you’re all heading out to see thousands of African penguins living their best life on Cape Town’s Boulders Beach. You guys can go it alone, or join one of our tours which takes you along the coast as well as for a waddle with the penguins. There are plenty more beaches up Cape Town’s sleeves. The sheltered coves of Clifton and the warm-as-toast waters and rock pools at Muizenberg are both family-friendly choices. Then there’s Camps Bay’s sugar-white sands and wow views. Get there just before sunset for a magical evening with the kids. Additionally, you have the option of taking lessons outside of the classroom; a tour of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years, is led by former political prisoners who have a unique insight into the island's 500-year-old history.

Walk to Freedom and Robben Island

Cape Town

Learn about apartheid in South Africa on this unique Walk to Freedom tour. You’ll hear Nelson Mandela’s story on Robben Island and visit the townships where residents were gravely affected by apartheid laws. You'll also get the chance to talk to the people who live in these communities today.

This full-day tour starts at 9.00am on the site of District Six, one of the old residential areas of the city. This once busy, multi-racial community was destroyed during apartheid when the government ordered mass evictions and sent people to townships miles outside of the city centre. Next, visit Langa, a typical black African township where you’ll be greeted by a community site guide who lives here and will show you around, perhaps even introducing you to their family.

The tour continues with a visit to Bonteheuwel, a former mixed heritage township where you’ll learn how people were classified as ‘non-white’ during apartheid and separated into different areas. The final stop is at Gugulethu, where you will visit the Gugulethu Seven Memorial which commemorates the deaths of seven young black activists killed by police in 1986 and the Amy Biehl Memorial, who was a young American student and anti-apartheid activist who was murdered here.

At about midday, you will be dropped at the V&A Waterfront where you can grab a bite to eat before boarding the boat to Robben Island. This part of the trip is run by the official Robben Island Museum and is split into two legs, a one-hour bus tour of the island and a tour of what used to be the maximum-security prison, led by a former political prisoner. You’ll get to see Nelson Mandela’s cell representing an incredibly important moment in South Africa’s history.

Day 4

Cape Town

Your final full day in Cape Town. We’re going to make it fabulous, fantastic and fun for all the family. How about a nature tour at the top of Table Mountain with your own private guide? Or maybe (Tik Toking teens are going to love this one) a trip to Bo-Kaap for Cape Malay culture, colourful houses and chef’s kiss traditional food? Be there at midday for the firing of the Noon Gun cannon. Outdoorsy families could cycle up Chapman’s Peak and kayak along the Atlantic Coast. Those that love to stroll and eat have got markets, street art and sunset at Sea Point Promenade. Or get your crew back to the V&A Waterfront for one last peek at Table Mountain and the ocean.

Day 5

Eastern Cape Game Reserve

It’s breakfast before a flight to Port Elizabeth to go where the wildlife is rich and the wi-fi is weak. You’re heading to Kariega Game Reserve to see the wild side of Africa. To catch sunrises, sunsets and the safari bug. To unwind and unplug with your gang. Grown ups and littles can expect life-changing experiences in what will feel like a nature documentary. In the land of the BIg Five you’re going to love the twice-daily game drives (up early, early for the morning ones). Bring your binoculars, soak up the silence, prepare to be patient and get ready to enjoy plenty of untamed moments together. You’re staying in the Main Lodge of the Reserve where extra activities include family fishing trips, crowd-pleasing canoe rides and very welcome spa treatments.

Day 6

Eastern Cape Game Reserve

Safari drives, a safari cruise, long lunches and nights under star-filled skies. Kariega Game Reserve puts you in the kingdom of the wild and is a treat for the whole family. Searching for felines in the thicket and finding out that elephants can eat for up to 17 hours a day are just the start.

Day 7

Eastern Cape Game Reserve

Today is a chance to take a boat cruise along the Bushman’s or Kariega Rivers and enjoy a canoe ride. It’s also your Walk This Way day for a guided tour on foot into the bush (over 16s only). With expert safari guides on hand you’ll learn about paw prints, animal tracking, bird calls and so much more. Be prepared to chat about every zebra stripe and hippo bottom you've seen throughout the day before retiring to bed after dinner, laughter and sundowners. Everything is just better on safari.

Day 8

Eastern Cape Game Reserve & departure

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye (hopefully only for a while). We'll transfer you all to Port Elizabeth for a flight to either Cape Town or Johannesburg where you’ll catch your return flight to the UK or onward travel.
