This charming wooden lodge sits in a remote hillside spot on the shore of Lake Kivu.
With just a scattering of rustic wooden cabins set in lush tropical gardens on the shores of Lake Kivu, Cormoran Lodge is a restful and intimate retreat. It’s the perfect place to unwind for a day or two between wildlife treks, with suitably low-key, eco-friendly facilities. The seven spacious rooms are perched on stilts to make the most of the lake views. Natural materials predominate in the décor, with wooden floors, walls and ceilings and stone feature walls in the bathroom. All have a small fridge, free Wi-Fi and a balcony offering breathtaking views.
There’s a pocket-sized private artificial beach, complete with loungers, where you can dry off between lake swims; a jetty for boat trips if you feel a little more energetic; and a games room where you can play billiards, darts or board games.

Facilities
The food in the small restaurant is a mix of Rwandan and international dishes cooked fresh to order, with local seafood a speciality. There’s also a cosy bar.
Go trekking in the Kibuye region or take a boat trip on Lake Kivu.
Credit/debit cards can’t be used at Cormoran Lodge – it takes cash only.
