A relaxed safari camp where wildlife comes to you, and the modern world feels far, far away
Hidden among tamarind trees in the heart of Tsavo East, this laid-back safari camp invites you to slow down and tune into the rhythm of the wild. Days start with the shuffle of elephants at the waterhole and end with stories shared around the fire before retiring to simple but welcoming tents, each with a shady veranda and a front-row seat to the bush. With no fences, and wildlife often wandering through, staying at Satao Camp feels gently adventurous, and best suited to couples and families with older children.
Why we love Satao Camp
-
From your tent or the raised deck, watch elephants, giraffes, and zebras come to drink at the waterhole.
-
Lunches are relaxed and unhurried and the day ends around the fire with good company and the sounds of the bush.
-
Stay in spacious, traditional safari tents with real beds, private bathrooms, and wide-open views of the surrounding wilderness.
-
A true safari experience close to Malindi and Watamu, easy to reach but far enough to feel completely off the map.
Rooms
Tents here are simple, spacious, and made for real safari living. Each has a proper bed, an en-suite bathroom with a traditional safari shower, and a shady veranda looking straight out onto the bush. There’s no air-conditioning, minibar, or glass between you and the wild — just canvas, fresh air, and the sounds of the savannah. Solar power keeps the lights on, and everything you need is there without the fuss. It is comfortable without feeling cut off from the landscape you came to see.
Facilities
Meals here are easy and full of flavour. The smell of fresh coffee from the restaurant in the morning will get you out of bed. Lunches are relaxed outside in the fresh air and often shared with the odd giraffe wandering past. Your lunch will be freshly prepared and cooked under Tamarind Tree (weather permitting). In the evenings, everyone gathers around the fire for hearty food, a few laughs, and a sky full of stars. It is simple, sociable, and exactly how eating on safari should feel.
