HOTEL STAY/COVID TEST
Anyone travelling to BARBADOS, please be alert to whats going on there. If you worked all year and save some money going on a 1 week vacation this is not the place to be. We travelled there on the 2nd January which was my anniversary and later in the week my birthday. Went with a negative test, when we landed at the airport, we were given a red band and have to do a test 5 days after the first test. The hotel will not let us leave our room, we had to pay a special taxi to take us for the test and return without going anywhere. We were leaving that Friday, did not get to do anything for the full week was on quarantine the whole week, the text came back friday 12 noon, my flight was 8 in the morning so we could not travel, had to rebook hotel, rebook flights. Thursday I decided to pay to get our test done for the next flight since that was past 5 days. The cost was 180 USD. per person, they promise 24/48 hours, it came back in about 60 hours and again was not accepted at the airport because it was past 72 hours by the time we got to the next flight, so at the airport we had to pay again 102. USD each for another text at destination point. It cost us an extra 1500.USD to do nothing, I was literally going mad staying in the room with no wifi for the full 5 days. This hotel do not have an area for visitors waiting for a test result to relax at, also no room service for cleaning on for food, you have to stay in your room. I was told other hotels have an area downstairs where you can get out of your room and relax but not here. GM was kind enough to give us a discount for the next 3 nights. This is not a place to spend you hard earn money for you will not enjoy it at this time of COVID LOCKDOWN.
Weird, dark, poor value for $$$
For $400 per night I expected something special, and the photos looked amazing on the internet. But as soon as we arrived we felt something was amiss. Service was poor at check in. The landings and hallways had so many bulbs out that I literally thought someone had turned the lights off. I felt like I was on the set of “the Hobbit” every time I walked down the out of date hallway. Our “island view” room looked out on the parking lot and very busy, noisy coast road... even though the hotel seemed half empty. We were surprised they could not have chosen a nicer location for us. There were some weird things about the room like no clock, no light switch inside the bathroom, not enough towels, etc. All activities are now cancelled due to covid, and the gym is closed. Despite being right on the beach, the dining area is an indoors-style area. Even for $400/night breakfast was not included, with an additional cost of $30 US per adult which would have been another $100 daily for my family - while we could easily walk across the street to the food court (which we did) and feed everyone just as well for $50 or less. All in all, since none of the amenities were available, food was overpriced, and all the beaches in Barbados are just as nice as Accra (or nicer), we didn’t see any reason to stay... so we left.
Great view, great staff tasty food
I stayed last year December and I keep putting off to do the review until I recently dined there and then I was like oh shoot I forgot. The hotel surroundings, customer service, food and room was really good and they treat any special occasion very personal from sparklers, candles, singing the full works. I experienced such an amazing time I recommended their services to my best clients and they too loved it. Keep up the good work guys, customer service is very important and I am happy you guys try to keep up the standards.
Hotel to ourselves! But worth every penny spent
Flew back to U.K. from Barbados yesterday having spent a wonderful 8 Days at the Accra Beach and Spa Hotel in Christchurch. In all our efforts to get to Barbados given the high level of Covid requirements before (and during) our stay, I was hoping the hotel and surroundings would live up to expectation. And we were not disappointed! There were just 4 rooms in use throughout the whole of the hotel at Accra has only just reopened. This was a reminder of the impact COVID has had on tourism. Where Rockley beach would typically be lined with sun beds for hundreds of guests my partner and I pretty much had the beach and hotel to ourselves for our entire stay. Not all restaurants in site are open but the main coconut cove restaurant was open for breakfast and the beachside bar for drinks. Whilst the team is understandably smaller, there is a genuine There is a real and genuine ‘charm’ with every service we received at Accra Beach Hotel and Spa. A mix of local charm and international professionalism I couldn’t fault. There are no negatives but a few observations. Firstly we were upgraded to an ocean view deluxe room. It was huge! A giant whirlpool bath and queen size bed and a huge balcony overseeing what I only describe as one of the most beautiful beaches on this planet! But it cannot go unnoticed that the rooms are slightly dated. Small renovations would greatly enhance the class of this hotel, and I only mean small... things like the power sockets and cables, the shutter blinds between bathroom and bedroom, the bedside lamps... all need updating. Likewise the grounds are very tropical but it was clear some renovations are needed.... it was clean and well appointed but it has the potential to be stunning with a few jobs here and there There is a family feel to this hotel. The GM and his family were always present and couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was special. Anthony and Gustavos on front desk were super helpful as was Cherry-Ann And Neil, Cortez and Fabian were equally charming and made our stay very special In terms of Covid... I, like many Brits... overly panicked. You do absolutely need a negative test 72 hours before ‘arrival’, you do need to record your temperature every morning and evening and WhatsApp it to the Health Ministry and you are required (at no cost) to have a repeat test a few days into your vacation which is over and done in less then an hour and results the next day, but it didn’t hamper nor hinder our short vacation. Barbados have absolutely got it right when it comes to protocol and COVID measures... masks are mandatory in shops and your hands are always sprayed before entering. The hotel and other restaurants will also take your temperature before entering. I promise it sounds more taxing than what it actually is... just go with the flow and abide by the rules and you will have an awesome time And finally, the gem of this entire vacation was Rockley beach. Simply and utterly paradise! Pictures don’t do this beach justice.... the ocean was crystal clear, the temperature tepid and warm and sea life a plenty. Make the most of The tours and water sports that are easily and readily available Thank you Accra Beach and thank you Barbados. We will be back one day. Thank you for giving us the charm and beauty we hoped for in this vacation. You did Barbados very proud
Great location and view!
Visited with family of 4 and had a wonderful time at the Accra Beach Hotel. Beach was by far the best part! Gorgeous and not crowded. They had a nice large pool with swim up bar but it was slightly chilly, although nothing unbearable. The location is prime! It is within walking distances of a cute market area (Quayside Market) with some shops and casual restaurants. There’s also a small little lunch and drink area right off the beach. You can walk the boardwalk to go to a nice Asian restaurant or walk the amazing beach down to an awesome casual restaurant with great drinks and wings! The rooms need updating, as does the decor of the rest of the hotel. However the open air lobby is nice with a gorgeous view straight to the beach. Try to upgrade for pool or water view. We stayed on island view and you hear the busses and cabs beeping their horns all night long. Not the hotel’s fault of course. When we return back to Barbados, we will stay at Accra again.
