 Apes Hill Barbados

Elevated island living

A private-villa escape in Barbados’ central highlands, where you can swap beach-resort routines for your own pool, a championship golf course, forested gully trails, padel, tennis, and long Atlantic-to-Caribbean views.

Apes Hill is not your usual Barbados stay. Set 300 metres above sea level on 475 acres, Apes Hill feels wonderfully removed from the beach-strip bustle, with open views across the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, mature trees, deep gullies, and plenty of room to roam. You stay in a private villa with your own pool and kitchen, then shape the day around the things you fancy doing: golf before breakfast, a hike beneath Bearded Fig trees, padel at sunset, lunch at the clubhouse, or a shuttle down to the serviced Ocean Escape Beach Club in Speightstown. It is especially good for active families and groups of friends who want proper space and plenty to do.

Why we love Apes Hill Barbados

  • This is Barbados from a different angle. The elevated setting brings cooler breezes, picturesque island views, and nature trails through gullies where you may spot Green Monkeys among 100-foot Bearded Fig trees

  • You get serious sporting facilities. There’s an 18-hole Ron Kirby championship course, Little Apes par-3 course, golf performance centre, eight padel courts, and two floodlit tennis courts

  • The villa set-up works brilliantly for family holidays and friend groups. You have your own pool and outdoor space, but the clubhouse, restaurants, activities, and beach club give everyone somewhere else to be, too

  • A complimentary shuttle takes you to Ocean Escape Beach Club in Speightstown, where loungers, umbrellas, towels, chilled towels, sorbets, and canapés are all part of the set-up

You can make meals as sociable or as low-key as you like. Cook at your villa, book a private chef for dinner at home, have an easy lunch at the 20th Hole, or settle in at The Noisy Cricket for a more refined evening. Ingredients are grown on site or sourced around Barbados where possible, so the food has a stronger connection to the island than the standard resort menu.

The 20th Hole
An easy-going al fresco spot for relaxed lunches, post-golf drinks, and the kind of meal that works just as well in flip-flops as it does after a full day on the course.

The Noisy Cricket
The more occasion-worthy clubhouse choice, with locally led dishes and a setting that makes the most of Apes Hill’s elevated position.

Private Chef Dining
Bring dinner to your villa with a bespoke menu cooked and served in your own space, ideal for celebratory meals, family nights, or simply staying put after a busy day.

Wellness here is shaped around the landscape, not shut away in a separate spa block. You can start with yoga or Pilates overlooking the hills, head to the gym for a proper workout, explore the over 7 miles of nature trails, or arrange a private in-villa massage when a poolside afternoon is all the plan you need. It is easy to keep moving, but just as easy to take the day at your own pace.

Golf is the headline act, with an 18-hole award-winning championship course*, a bonus island-green 19th hole*, the nine-hole Little Apes par-three course*, and a performance centre for lessons and practice*. Beyond the fairways, you have eight padel courts, two full-size tennis courts, scenic hiking trails, and nature walks, so there is plenty for active families and groups of friends to get stuck into between beach-club afternoons and villa downtime. There is a schedule of monthly resort activities, as well as a Concierge to support scheduling activities on and off the resort.

The landscape isn’t just the backdrop here, it shapes how Apes Hill operates. The resort is Audubon Certified and uses measures including electric golf carts and rainwater collection, while thousands of fruit trees, 30 beehives, and an on-site farm-to-fork approach support both the local ecosystem and the food on your plate. You will notice the greener choices most in the way the place feels: generous open land, native planting, wildlife-rich gullies, and villas designed to sit more lightly in the landscape.

Apes Hill is an excellent match for families who want space, independence, and things everyone can genuinely join in with. Private pools and proper villa living make daily life easy, while Little Apes gives younger golfers a gentle introduction, and tennis, padel, nature trails, seasonal activities, kids’ menus, highchairs, and booster seats help fill the gaps between beach time and family dinners. There’s no big kids’ club set-up, so this is best for families who like doing things together rather than dropping children off for the day.
