Enjoy a wellness break in one of our heritage cottages that overlook the sparkling Arabian Sea…
Come to Niraamaya Retreats Surya Samudra for a wellness break in a heritage cottage overlooking the Arabian Sea. The hotel is spread over 32 acres with just one room per acre; picture banyan trees, coconut groves and cliff-front steps that lead down to a remote beach. The sea views are a highlight and can be admired from your cottage, our infinity pool and Café Samsara on the beach – we can also arrange private dining by the water, with your toes in the sand under a sky full of stars.
What makes Niraamaya unique is our 18 heritage cottages, which are a living testament to Indian culture. In the early 80s, many communities in Kerala started tearing down their houses to build modern concrete buildings but our founder, Klaus Schleusener, wanted to preserve the area’s traditional architecture. So, he found this tropical location – an oasis by the sea – and started sourcing buildings from the region, which he took apart and reassembled here at Niraamaya, like a jigsaw puzzle.
Our cottages are up to 250 years old and a mix of Keralan tharavadus and wooden houses, many with thatched roofs and natural ventilation. The first house was completely made of stone and is known as The Octagon Room for its shape, offering 180-degree sea views from the bed. All the cottages are surrounded by gardens, with plenty of swings and hammocks where you can relax, listen to the waves and humming of the birds. There’s a spectacular sunset most evenings – you might spot dolphins in the distance and fishermen pulling in their nets.
Wellness is a big part of our ethos at Niraamaya. We’re known as one of the top Ayurvedic spa resorts in Kerala. Many guests come for a 14-day treatment and meal plan devised by our holistic doctor. Every morning we host complimentary yoga sessions in a pavilion overlooking the sea and there’s a weekly schedule of activities including meditation, cycling and beach volleyball. Visitors also enjoy everything from diving and boat trips in the mangroves to cooking sessions with the chef where he’ll take you down to the beach to catch your own fish for dinner.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Malcolm, who's travelled extensively in India. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember.
