Things to do in India

The Radisson Hotel Goa Candolim: A residential hotspot

People always go out of their way to mention the good vibe…

By Rajesh Radhakrishnan
Manager of The Radisson, Candolim

We have a unique layout of seven apartment blocks dotted around the swimming pool. The Junior Suites with balconies and a pool view are particularly lovely. Unlike some modern hotels that resemble towers, ours feel more residential in a way with gabled terracotta tiled roofs and leafy trees dispersing the grounds. It’s a pretty good vibe here, people always say, and we’re about a ten-minute walk to the beach just across the road.

Guests dine by the pool but you can also enjoy breakfast – juice, fruit and pancakes served Maldives-style on a floating tray – while you’re submerged in the water (extra). We offer cuisine from all parts of India – Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, Kerala – each day highlighting a food from a different region. My personal favourite is the chicken tikka and I love dal makhani, a gently spiced rich lentil dish with a handkerchief-thin Rumali roti to soak it all up. It never gets boring but if there’s something really special that you want to request, we do our utmost to get it for you.

We’re quite a family orientated hotel so there’s a small games room with things like table tennis, and a couple of lovely ladies in the front-of-house team do activities like colouring in with the younger children and fun lessons in the art of napkin folding. On Sundays we decorate muffins or get them to meet the chef who’ll teach them some simple local recipes. Then of course we have people who want to experience North Goa’s energy, so they have breakfast and immediately move on to the buzzing beaches, bars, markets and restaurants which are all conveniently close by.

People don’t usually know this about The Radisson as we’re a large brand, but we are eco-conscious without singing about it. For example, we are creating our own bottling plant which is launching very soon, and all glass bottles will be supplied to our hotels. We manage our water sustainably and always aim to reduce waste whether it’s food or energy. All good things to come.
