Come to my family workshop in Jodhpur to learn about India’s quirky truck painting tradition…
Learn about India’s truck painting tradition at my family workshop in Jodhpur. As you drive through the country, you’ll notice trucks decorated with all kinds of colourful pictures and slogans. Homesick drivers spend months at a time on the road and miss their families, so they paint their trucks with images from home; perhaps of women collecting water in their village, animals grazing, religious celebrations or their family name. Some people also request quirky slogans like Horn Please! They’re fun to look out for as you travel around India.
Along with my six brothers, I’ve been painting trucks for over 30 years now in Jodhpur. As a team, it takes us up to five days to decorate one vehicle, depending on its size and how detailed the design is. When you come and visit, I’ll tell you about our family history over a cup of tea, you’ll get to watch us work and even have a go at truck painting yourself. Visitors really enjoy this interactive experience and have lots of questions about our work. I’m keen to show off my latest designs – truck painting is my family’s proud tradition.
Your journey will start with one of our UK team – someone like Malcolm, who's travelled extensively in India. They’ll shape your ideas into the trip of a lifetime. But they won't do it alone. They'll draw on the expertise of our contacts on the ground, connecting you to the people who'll make your holiday one you'll always remember.
