Saraca is a classic heritage property in Lucknow, built in 1936. I love the elegance of this sprawling bungalow, which was built with a mix of Art Deco and traditional Lucknow design. We’ve refurbished the building while keeping its original style – we want to take you right back to the bygone era of the 1900s when you stay with us. Guests appreciate the old-world charm, especially of the Lakhnavi courtyards which are popular for private dining and photo shoots.
Inside, there are 41 rooms all unique from each other, decorated with Chikan embroidery and linen embellished with Zardozi artwork. There are four-poster beds and patterned floor tiles, stately marble arches and local artwork. Rooms open onto our courtyards and a large lawn where we often hold weddings and banquets. The pool is a great place to relax after sightseeing – we’re set in the centre of Lucknow, close to all the city’s temples, markets and historic landmarks.
Azrak, which comes from the Arabic word for blue (the colour of royalty) is our signature restaurant which has striking Moroccan floor tiles. We serve a menu inspired by cuisine from the former princely states of Awadhi, Hyderabad and Shahi Rajputana. You can also enjoy our rooftop lounge Saraca and Italian restaurant, 1936, which is named for the year the house was built. We like to offer guests special experiences, be it kathak dance performances or a tour in one of our vintage cars – we’re just passionate about continuing the legacy of this heritage property.
