A hilltop retreat with village walks from the door and High Atlas views.
When you leave Marrakech behind, the landscape changes surprisingly fast. Within an hour, Kasbah Angour is up on its own hilltop between Tahanaout and Asni, surrounded by olive groves, earthen villages, and the first folds of the High Atlas. Built in traditional kasbah style from red sandstone and local materials, it feels rooted in its setting rather than dressed for it.
Gardens spread down the hillside, with roses, olives, figs, herbs, and vegetables, while the large pool faces the mountains. Days are pleasingly simple: walk out with a local guide, cool off by the pool, then settle in for dinner shaped by what is in season.
Why we love Kasbah Angour
-
Walks start at the gate. A local guide can take you through olive groves, pine and eucalyptus woodland, and nearby villages without a long drive into the mountains.
-
The gardens are a big part of the stay, with roses, fruit trees, lawns, herbs, and vegetables surrounding a large south-facing pool and plenty of tucked-away terraces.
-
There is a real connection to the surrounding area. Most of the team is local, furnishings are made nearby, and the kitchen uses garden produce alongside ingredients from local suppliers.
-
Marrakech is close enough for an easy two-centre stay. The drive is under an hour, but the hilltop setting feels far removed from the medina.
Facilities
Breakfast brings fresh orange juice, Moroccan breads and pancakes, fruit, yoghurt, and cooked choices. Later, a changing menu draws on fruit, vegetables, and herbs from the gardens alongside local produce. In warmer weather, tables move onto the terrace among the bougainvillea, and on cooler evenings, the stone-vaulted Café-Bar Azrou is the cosier place to linger.
Le Grand Atlas Restaurant
The main restaurant serves Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes for lunch and dinner, using seasonal produce from the gardens and local suppliers.
Café-Bar Azrou
A stone-built, vaulted bar with Moroccan pieces, a small library, and terraces overlooking the gardens. It serves drinks, Moroccan wines and local beer, and dishes from the restaurant menu. Local musicians play on selected evenings.

There’s a small wellness set-up rather than a destination spa. There is a traditional hammam* and massage* room, heavenly after a day on foot.
Most of the team comes from nearby villages, furniture and decorative pieces are made locally, and the gardens supply fruit, herbs, and vegetables to the kitchen. The hotel also uses solar panels, recycles, plants trees, and buys additional produce from local suppliers.
Kasbah Angour works well for families who prefer pools, walks, and days out to organised children’s entertainment. There is no kids’ club, but Tower Junior Suites are flexible for extra beds, and the Assif Family Deluxe Suite combines a Superior Room and Tower Junior Suite with two en-suite bathrooms. Guided walks*, mountain biking*, mule outings*, cooking*, and 4x4 trips* can all be arranged for an extra fee. The outdoor pool is unheated, so swimming is best in the warmer months.
