When we arrived at the airport all our travel COVID test results were verified and all protocols seem to be in place, temperature checks etc. , swift and efficient transit through the airport. The taxi driver was very aware of the protocols, wearing a mask (covering mouth and nose) leaving all 4 windows open for ventilation during the journey, visible bottles of sanitiser available. On arrival at The Landings we were taken to the nurses station, temperature checked and given a PCR test, given wristbands to identify what stage of the process we were at and escorted to our room. That night we had room service, again efficient and fully masked delivery. At 7am the next day we received negative test results had our wristbands changed to denote negative and we were free to go to the beach etc. Since then we have noticed how well trained the staff are in COVID protocols, not once have I seen anyone wearing their mask below their nose. We went out on a canoe and on our return the canoe was immediately sanitised with a special machine and our life vests placed in a barrel of sanitising liquid, I was astounded. For anyone feeling nervous about care and attention to COVID details I recommend you come here. I do not mean to sound over the top about all this but I am very pleased to see the staff so aware because it makes the experience so much more relaxed. The rooms here are spacious and fabulous, non are rooms, they are all suites. The beach is amazing, clear blue sea and a very relaxed environment, beautiful place to be.
Upon arrival our family had to take an invasive and unpleasant Covid Test and we were then quarantined in our room for over 24 hours. We were not advised of this requirement in advance. The PCR test we had just taken in the UK with the negative certification counted for nothing. We heard that another family got a 'false positive' test and had to take another, they were stuck in their room for over 4 days, so we were 'lucky'! Whilst in quarantine we received virtually no information or updates. Following 'release' there was very little information available as to what was available at the resort (no gym etc), and getting information on available excursions was frustratingly difficult. I don't know why this was the case, it would have been very easy just to be upfront and produce a simple fact sheet. The atmosphere at the Palms was completely lacking, so we ate at the Beach Club for the whole holiday, where the staff were good but the menu was repetitive. The beach is lovely, and we eventually managed to book some excursions, but when you pay as much as we did, you expect better or at least a large Covid discount.
good on the whole
We arrived just after hotel had reopened after Lockdown to a cool glass of juice. We were then quickly directed to another COVID test, which was a new regulation. We did know this was going to happen but only 2/3 days before we arrived. However, despite promising less than 24 hours to wait we had to wait just over 36hours which was quite difficult. Communication from the hotel front desk was terrible and we were kind of left to our own devices. Alot of cardboard boxes of food arrived which piled up as the cleaners were unable to access our rooms. The rooms were beautiful and we did have a wonderful sea view. We had the added bonus of an ocean view with butler service. The hotel was quiet and the staff were gathering momentum a little for service to guests. Service was very slow at times, especially in restaurants, and food choice was limited. Thank goodness we had all inclusive as the prices looked ridiculous on the menu for what was offered. The Palms is not a restaurant - more a room with a few tables outside. The beach is gorgeous and there are a good number of sun beds; some beach activities but most were not included and you had to pay extra. I do think the hotel did well under circumstances and am sure it will get going more once it has opened a bit longer. The Spa was opened but limited choice in what you could have. The massage I did have was good. However, I wouldn't rate as 5 stars. If you want a luxurious all inclusive resort this is NOT the place for you.
COVID Test upon arrival and Hospitality
Please be advised that upon arrival to the hotel you will have to take ANOTHER PC3 test in addition to the one you provide when arriving into the country, which we were unaware of. You will then be required to quarantine 24 to 36 hours with very limited instructions. When we called the nurses' station for further information, they seemed frustrated and dismissive. Schedule your time appropriately because you will be confined to your room. I would’ve like to have known this information prior to arriving for better planning. We were truly shocked to hear the news upon checking in and it really sets the tone for the rest of our stay. Once out of quarantine, you will receive a blue strip and no further instructions or site visits. The concierge is not very accommodating or friendly. Milo in water sports is not very pleasant or inviting. We asked to take the catamaran out and he seemed bothered by it. The staff at The Palms restaurant is nice. The beach club is pleasant but has a restricted menu. I miss the hospitality and friendliness and clearer directions before arrival would have been useful.
Sheltered spot on Morgan Bay
A quality hotel. Lovely sized rooms plus decent front and rear balconies. Lounge with kitchen and dining area. Had an ocean view room, better than a marina view. Why come all the way to the coast to look out over somebody’s moored boat in marina? Staff super helpful and very friendly. Massive credit to the hotel. Limited restaurant opening which was a let down. Sometimes groundhog when having breakfast lunch and dinner 2/3 days in a row in the same restaurant. Menus came repetitive. Beach loungers close together except wasn’t busy when there so spread out enough. Pigeon island trip good, go early to avoid midday sun climbing to the top! $10 each return trip in hotel speedboat no brainer. 1.5 hour from airport turned into 2hrs each way due to traffic. Upgrade yourself to the helicopter ride! Tide very calm, guests in mystique hotel other side of bay said they had 4 ft swells. Not cheap though worth trying this hotel.
