Good game reserve
This was the final stop on our trip and was very enjoyable, Our guide Richard was great and very knowledgeable, we were there for 3 days and had morning and evening trips each day. The evening trips included a stop in a place to watch the sunset with a choice of wine or other drinks and nibbles which was lovely. One of the morning excursions was on a boat along the river which was beautiful and so peaceful. All the meals were excellent for 'mass catering' with very good choices. The reason for 4 stars is the room. We had a 2 bedroom lodge with a fantastic balcony and view but it felt very tired. I thought that all the lodges were the same but as we were leaving I saw the chalet of some friends we made and it was completely different! Very fresh and white and a lovely setting, I wish we had been there! We saw all the 'big 5' but this is a game reserve and not a completely natural setting so the rangers have more of an idea where to find the animals, it was still magical to see them though!
The highlight of our trip to South Africa
Six of us stayed for three nights from 23rd February. None of us knew what to expect, but at the end all three couples agreed this was the highlight of our trip. We arrived on the first day in time for lunch and check-in for Main Lodge was quick with a welcome drink provided. We were all disappointed with the food at lunch that day, but this must have been a one-off as all the other meals were good with lots of choices and variety and enjoyed by us all. Wine was reasonably priced and paired nicely with our dinner. Our ranger was Thomas who is extremely knowledgeable on the flora and fauna on the Reserve and a thoroughly nice man. We were delighted to have been guided by Thomas who we would give 5* to. The rangers all have a great system of letting each other know where the Big Five are at any time of day so you get to see these magnificent animals. At one point we sat very close to some trees and could hear two lions and a lioness eating their kill. We made a quick exit when one of them started fighting over their meal, but we were never worried as Thomas was 100% in charge and knew what he was doing. We never thought we would be so close up to the animals so it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The river trip was a great experience too and the hot drinks and muffins much appreciated. Sundowners were all very well received by our group. The only improvement I would suggest is for the rangers to be equipped with a head mike and the guests to have headphones as when driving
Virgin Bush folk
Couldn’t fault any of meals. Breakfast superb. Lunch highly recommended. Evening meal Was excellent. Accommodation was a little tired. It would have been nice to have had a fan in the living/kitchen area. Bedsheets didn’t fit on small single beds. General facilities of the pool, the bar and site walk were very acceptable for a safari park. We saw all of the big five in the six safaris that we did. We also saw a vast range of other wildlife, too many to mention. Our ranger Nathan was extremely knowledgable on all of the wildlife including many species of insects and birds. A special thanks to him for getting us through a 40 minute episode with Mumburro (?) the elephant who we had to face down over that period of time. It was due to his expertise and skill that we survived a charge from the naughty boy😂. We would strongly recommend this experience to anybody with a sense of adventure.
March at Kariega
Highly recommended, quality facility with excellent staff, food and drinks. Game drives were very informative with dedicated and informative Ranger. Boat trip to the beach was fabulous, highly recommended.
Great ambiance - Great staff - Great wildlife, but watch out for the monkeys trying to steal your nuts while enjoying a G&T :-) - Great food (Try the Warthog) - Great large rooms - I hope that you have got the idea, this place is FANTASTIC.
