Dragon Lights to Island Rites

A 10-night, multi-centre trip that takes you from Hong Kong to Bali's intriguing interior and beautiful beach.

This trip gives you a brilliant three-part contrast: Hong Kong for big-city energy, Ubud for culture and green-space calm, then Nusa Dua for beach time with everything nicely taken care of. You get skyline, street food, markets, rice paddies, rainforest, temples, and beach in one smooth route, with private transfers and hand-picked stays making the whole thing feel effortless. The clever bit is the order. Hong Kong gives you a fast and fun opening, Ubud slows things down with yoga, waterfalls, and Balinese craft, and Nusa Dua brings all-out relaxation at the end.

Days 1-4

Hong Kong

After the flight, keep things easy and settle in, then head out for a first wander through Kowloon, the Jade Market, the Flower Market or the city’s neon-lit streets. Your time in the city includes a Hong Kong Street Food tour in Sham Shui Po, one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. This half-day experience is all about proper local flavour. Optional experiences can also be added while you’re here. We recommend the Hong Kong Explorer tour for a fuller introduction to the city, linking Hong Kong Island and Kowloon by classic local transport.

Hong Kong Street Food
Hong Kong

Taste the flavours of Hong Kong’s vibrant Sham Shui Po district on a half-day food tour. As you stroll through the neighbourhood, you’ll sample local specialities, tucking into popular breakfast dishes at a traditional eatery before visiting a local breakfast shop to try steamed rice rolls. Next, you’ll visit a soy speciality store, where you’ll taste the freshest soy milk and hear about soybean cuisine. Next is a braised goose restaurant where the chef adapts traditional Chinese cuisine to suit Hong Kong tastes. A sweet treat follows at a famous bakery, sampling freshly baked cookies. Finally, you'll feast on hand-made fresh egg noodles at the award-winning, family-run ‘Oodles of Noodles’ restaurant.

Hong Kong Explorer
Hong Kong

Experience the vibrant contrasts of Hong Kong as you journey across both Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. This immersive tour blends walking exploration with classic local transport, offering an authentic taste of daily life while showcasing the city’s cultural icons, bustling markets, and beloved foodie favourites.

Begin your adventure by travelling like a local, hopping aboard the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central – a timeless ride offering sweeping views of Victoria Harbour. Once on Hong Kong Island, wander through the lively streets of Central, the city’s buzzing business district, before continuing to Hollywood Road, known for its antique shops and heritage charm. Your walk then leads you into Sheung Wan, one of the earliest British-settled neighbourhoods, where traditional trades such as preserved‑foods stores and local pharmacies carry on their long‑held customs. Along the way, enjoy a true Hong Kong foodie moment with a tasting of wonton noodles and lemon tea (served hot or cold) inside a classic Cha Chaan Teng, the city’s beloved style of everyday tea house.

After lunch, the tour continues across the harbour to Kowloon, where you’ll explore some of Hong Kong’s most iconic local markets. Discover unique finds at the Jade Market, admire the colourful blooms of the Flower Market and experience the charm of the Bird Garden, a peaceful haven filled with songbirds and ornate cages. Another delicious treat awaits: a choice of Rocky Bun (crispy and sweet) or a classic Egg Tart, paired with Hong Kong‑style Milk Tea. Your day concludes at the lively Ladies’ Market, where you may choose to linger for some shopping or return to your hotel by local bus or metro.

Hike The Dragons Back on Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong

Don't forget to pack your walking boots for this tour that guides you along the famous Dragon's Back trail. Situated on the Southeastern corner of Hong Kong, the Dragon's Back mountain ridge weaves across the Shek O Peak in the Shek O Country Park.

Rise early, around 08.30am, to be met by your guide for the day to catch a train to Shau Kei Wan where you'll then hop on a bus so that you can reach the start of the hike in To Tei Wan.  Here you'll embark on an easy two hour trek, covering over 4 miles of stunning landscapes. You'll head up to the Shek O Peak  to the viewing point so you can admire the 360-degree views of Shek O Beach, Tai Long Wan (also known as Big Wave Bay) and on a clear day you might even catch a glimpse of Tim Tam Bay and the South China Sea. Carefully tackle the steep downhill path to Big Wave Bay where you will have the option to spend time on the beach or return back to the hotel by public transport with the rest of the group.

Days 5-8

Ubud

After Hong Kong’s full-volume energy, Ubud gives you room to breathe: rice paddies, temples, jungle, craft shops, excellent cafés and the kind of slow mornings you’ll be very ready for. Our top pick for a day out is the Balikaru Explorer. It’s a full-day trip, usually with an early start and a late-afternoon return, and it gives you a much richer look at Bali than the usual stop-and-snap circuit. You’ll trek through rainforest near Mount Batukaru, visit villages, explore herbal and spice gardens, have lunch at Warung Balikaru, learn about Trigona bee farming, hear bamboo music, soak in hot springs and stop by Pengempu Waterfall.

Balikaru Explorer: Rainforest Hike & Falls
Bali

Uncover a quieter, more authentic side of Bali on a full‑day journey into protected rainforests, spiritual temples and peaceful village life. This experience blends nature, wellness and culture into one beautifully balanced day.

Your guide will pick you up around 7.30am for a scenic drive past tropical landscapes and rice terraces to Mt. Batukaru’s protected rainforest. Begin with a 2.5‑hour guided jungle trek, complete with bamboo walking stick, exploring towering trees, exotic plants and river crossings. Visit a jungle temple and have a snack break in the forest.

Continue to Balikaru Village to explore the herbal and spice gardens, followed by a chance to shower and change clothes. Enjoy a traditional Nasi Campur “Tumpeng” lunch at Warung Balikaru, then visit the Balikaru Farm to learn about Trigona bee farming and wander through the orchid garden. Relax to the sounds of traditional “Rindik” bamboo music and unwind with a 15‑minute head and neck massage. Take a short walk to Belulang hot springs to soak in the natural sulfur waters before ending your day at the tranquil Pengempu Waterfall.

Good to know

We recommend wearing trekking or sports shoes and bringing a change of clothes. Rain ponchos are provided in case of rain. Shower facilities are available at Balikaru.

Days 9-11

Nusa Dua

Next, transfer from Ubud to Nusa Dua. This is your beach finale: calm water, villa-style comfort, and time to enjoy Bali horizontally. But it’s not just sun, sea, and strategic lounging. We’ve included the Western Bali by Vintage VW Jeep experience, which takes you beyond the resort to Tanah Lot, Bali’s famous sea temple, Batukaru, a temple on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, Jatiluwih’s rice terraces, and Ulun Danu Temple, the photogenic water temple that appears to float on the lake.

Western Bali’s Highlights by Vintage VW Jeep
Bali

Bali’s colourful VW 181 Safari Jeeps are a classic sight around the island. They also provide a seriously cool way to explore. Jump on board for an adventure around western Bali to see some of the island’s most famous temples and stunning diverse landscapes.

Your tour begins with a trip to Bali’s most popular attraction: the ancient sea temple shrine of Pura Tanah Lot, which is perched on a rock formation offshore. A morning visit will hopefully mean you’ll have a more tranquil experience. You’ll then be driven through villages and rice fields up into the mountains to the rainforested slopes of Batukaru volcano, home to impressive Pura Luhur Batukaru, which you’ll explore on a guided tour. A drive through Bali’s most spectacular rice terraces around UNESCO World Heritage-listed Jatiluwih follows, before you arrive at Bedugul, located 1200 meters above sea level. We’ll stop at Beratan Lake to visit beautiful Ulun Danu Temple, which sits in the middle of the lake, and have a buffet lunch in the tropical gardens. On our route back, we’ll head to a colourful local market so you can experience the buzz of local life and then look around a traditional Balinese family compound, which has a distinctive design, for an insightful end to the day.

• Duration: full day
• Departing daily from South Bali, Seminyak and Central Ubud hotels
• Operates year round
• Private experience

Good to know
We recommend bringing a light jacket or jumper and long trousers as it can get cool in the mountains.

Alternative endings

Beach swap

Want to switch up the beach ending? Seminyak works well if you want restaurants, boutiques, and a more social scene. The Gilis add a more island-hopping feel, and Lombok is the quieter, more spacious alternative.
