A stripped-back canvas camp in the heart of the Serengeti, where wildlife moves through as part of everyday life.
Kirurumu Central Serengeti is a small, mobile tented camp that moves seasonally to stay close to the best wildlife areas. It’s a proper, stripped-back safari experience, where the focus is firmly on what’s happening outside the tent. Central Serengeti is one of the most reliable parts of the park for year‑round game viewing, and this camp positions you right in it, close to the great wildebeest migration routes, resident predators and regular big-game sightings without long drives. The setup is simple but comfortable, with good beds, hot bucket showers, well-prepared food and a team that keeps everything running smoothly without unnecessary extras. This is safari in its simplest, most immersive form.
Why we love Kirurumu Central Serengeti
-
The camp follows the wildlife, so you don’t have to — it does the hard work for you
-
It’s proper canvas‑camp living, where you hear the night sounds, feel close to nature, and remember you’re really in the Serengeti
-
Central Serengeti delivers seriously good game viewing year‑round, so the odds are very much in your favour
-
No frills, no fuss — just a well‑run camp that gets the safari basics spot on and lets the experience do the talking
Rooms
The eight tents are simple but comfortable, with proper beds, bedside tables, and enough space to unpack without feeling cramped. Each one has an en suite setup with a bucket shower and flushing toilet, so you’ve got your basics covered. Canvas walls keep you tuned into what’s happening outside, from distant calls at night to the sense that wildlife is never far away.
Facilities
Breakfast is usually early before heading out, with lunch either back in camp or set up out in the bush. Bush lunches are a highlight, set up under acacia trees or on rocky kopjes in areas chosen for their wildlife activity, so even lunchtime feels like part of the safari. Food is fresh, seasonal, and well prepared by experienced camp chefs, with a straightforward, unfussy approach that works in this setting. Dietary requirements are well catered for, including vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-specific requests, as long as they’re flagged in advance.
What's Included
• fully inclusive of all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) • daily game drives • park fees and Tourism Levy • local drinks (including alcoholic beverages, excluding premium brands).
This isn’t a place with a spa or pool, and you won’t miss them. The experience here is about being out in the bush and then coming back to switch off properly. A hot bucket shower, a seat by the fire, and a sky full of stars does most of the work. Here, switching off comes naturally.
Game drives are the focus here, heading out each morning and afternoon with experienced guides who know this part of the Serengeti inside out. Because the camp moves seasonally, you’re well placed for whatever wildlife activity is happening at the time, whether that’s following the great wildebeest migration or spending time with resident predators and plains game, without long drives or rigid schedules.
As a mobile camp, Kirurumu keeps its footprint light, moving seasonally and leaving minimal impact on the areas it uses, while working closely with local teams, including Maasai staff, as part of the camp experience.
Best suited to older, adventurous children who will enjoy the immersive, back‑to‑basics safari setup. There aren’t distractions or family‑specific facilities but for the right age, it’s an unforgettable introduction to safari life.
