Nice resort in the jungle......a bit remote from Ubud
We stayed for New Years Eve at this nice resort in the middle of the jungle. Very relaxing, excellent staff and very good breakfast. Rooms are also nice with outdoor shower. The resort feels to be about 20 years old but really nice. Relaxing athmosphere. Missing shuttle bus to Ubud and no sauna should be offered at rates around USD 300 per night per room. The pool-view to the jungle is fantastic.
Beautiful and Peaceful
We stayed here in December for my wife's 40th and we loved it. The jungle setting is beautiful and peaceful with a magnificent pool. We ate at the main restaurant and the Cabana Lounge and both served delicious food throughout the day. Our room was clean and comfortable with a balcony and very nice shower. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We split our visit into two, visiting Gili Trawangan for a couple of days over Christmas, and the hotel stored our big bags while we were away. My wife had a nail treatment at the spa and we treated ourselves to a couple's massage, with two 90-minute massages each and lunch served in the jungle retreat. It was amazing, very relaxing and the spa staff were lovely. We saw lots of monkeys in the hotel grounds and there can be lots of insects, but that's what happens when you stay in the jungle during rainy season! There is a shuttle service to Ubud, which is handy but it doesn't run after mid-afternoon. We had a wonderful stay and we will definitely return. If you are looking for somewhere special to stay in Bali then Alila is perfect.
Quiet Week in Ubud at Beautiful Resort
This resort is beautiful and quiet (please note that it is located atop the hill away from Ubud City Centre), which was perfect for us as we wanted to relax after a long week in Seminyak (much louder and considerably less sleep). Positives: - We looked forward to afternoon tea at the pool every day, which was served from 3-4p. It's a very small gesture, but we ended up looking forward to it every day. It's the resort's unofficial meeting time for all of the guests to get together around the pool and enjoy complimentary coffee/tea/desserts. It led right into happy hour, so my husband and I ended up at the pool almost every afternoon for hours until dinner time. - Award-winning pool. It's absolutely stunning. - The Terrace Tree Villa is absolutely stunning and worth the upgrade! We were initially in the Valley Villa (too much nature, aka bugs), but hotel management was able to accommodate a room change. We absolutely loved our upgraded villa and highly recommend it to anyone staying here. - The hotel has monkeys living on the property. This is a plus and my husband and I found the monkeys entertaining all week. - Staff was very kind, especially Addi and Juli. Negatives: - Hotel should add an additional shuttle time to its route to Ubud City Centre during the evening. The latest shuttle pick-up is 2:30/3:00. There should be an evening stop so that guests can easily get to Ubud center for dinner / drinks. - Restaurant service is extremely forgetful and slow. We often had to make the same requests repeatedly until we got our order. Not indicative of a traditional 5-star resort. - If you do not like bugs, do not stay in the Valley Villa. This villa overlooks the jungle and has an open-air bathroom, which will have many bugs. Fortunately, hotel management was able to accommodate a room change for us.
Very disappointing - do not stay here
I stayed here with my partner in Nov 2019 and we were very disappointed with our stay for the following reasons: 1) 100s of bugs and other insects everywhere - at dinner when you are eating inside your food on the table, in your room in the bed, in the bathroom, everywhere. 2) room was not as pictured - the pictures are totally deceiving - rooms are old. Pictures look photoshopped. All in we paid a lot of money for an experience which we did not receive. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast food is good but the issues we faced made our experience very disappointing.
tranquil and relaxing
We arrived to Ubud after spending 4 nights at thee Mulia Resort Nusa Dua and found Alila to be a breath a fresh air...literally It is so calming, tranqil and relaxing that you never want to leave. The staff are always there to help you, friendly and easy to talk to. We opted for the villa with a private pool...great choice if you don't want to use the large pool with mountain valley views. Room service is only a simple call Breakfast menu is all you can eat. It is a set menu that changes every day. You order what you want and if you fell hungry just order some more. We were lucky enough to have the local mountain monkeys drop by our villa each morning and night so there was no need to go to the Monkey Forest. They offer a free shuttle bus into Ubud, drop off and pick up or catch a cab. Cab was about 120000 (au$12) Ubud is fairly relaxed, not a lot of people to annoy you around Christmas time. Shopping is easy. So many choices of restaurants and bars at all price ranges. We were on a flop and drop holiday this time so didn't opt for any tour however there are plenty to chose from. Don't miss an opportunity to stay at this resort.
