Things to do in South Africa

The cool factor of Cape Cadogan

Here you can effortlessly immerse yourself into the city like a local…

By Jisca Johansen
Group Sales Manager at MORE Family Collection

Everyone’s heard about the V&A Waterfront – it’s almost like what the Kruger is to safari. But for those in-the-know, it’s all about Kloof Street. It’s hyper local with lots of lively independent shops, restaurants, and galleries where everyone knows each other. With Table Mountain as the backdrop, it really is an incredible location.

On Kloof Street, The MORE Family Collection acquired four listed Georgian homes with Victorian influences featuring beautiful sash windows, white columns and signature black painted shutters – the components of Cape Cadogan. Inside there’s an air of Oscar Wilde with velvet clove-green sofas, patterned wallpaper, chandeliers and beautiful orchids supplied by the mother of owner, Robert More.  Of the 19 rooms spread over three categories, it’s the superior luxury rooms that steal the heart in terms of comfort and style with a spacious bathroom and courtyard or balcony. If you’re in a family or group, our three-bedroom residence comes with a private swimming pool and butler, Denver, loved by all who meet him. We also have a self-catering option called More Quarters located a street away in this quaint little cul-de-sac. It’s perfect for private living yet with the security and help at hand from the hotel.

We always encourage people to eat out in Cape Town but our award-winning Upper Union restaurant should not be missed especially for the most delicious burrata and fennel jam. The vegetarian cuisine can turn even the most stubborn carnivore with slices of pumpkin and beetroot blackened on the braai. Saying that, the chef does a great tomahawk steak…

As for exploring, consider us your savvy local friend who can loop you in on restaurant recommendations or the best weekend market. Then it’s iced tea and cake in the afternoon or perhaps a massage in the spa. There’s nothing like coming back after touring and dipping your feet into the pool with a glass of wine. But for the brave, as an extra there is an option for breakfast at sunrise atop Signal Hill. No one’s up there. Just you, the croissants, and the waking city below.
