Luxe designer hotel
Interior design at it's best. The pure white building, lush green hedges, designer pool and gorgeous restaurant combine to make this one of my favourite hotels ever. Sitting on our terrace listening to the fountain is sheer bliss after 20 hours of flying. Thank you to all the Chedi team who made our stay magical.
Another relaxing week at the Chedi
One of the things I enjoy about this hotel is that there are no organised activities or special meal evenings. You are left alone if that’s what you want basically. I didn’t intend to come here alone for a second time but that was how it worked out and I found it extremely relaxing. I spent my days swimming and reading whilst moving between the three pools depending on the level of the wind/ breeze and my mood. Many of the staff have been there for years and come from India for example. They are thoughtful, kind, polite and very good at their jobs. I’d like to thank Pandi by the Serai pool for his good cheer and sweet natured service. I saw another review mentioned the Serai rooms in the main building. I think they are perfectly fine. I had a view of the pool and the sea and it was very quiet and had all the space I needed. Alcohol is very expensive for anyone using British Pounds so I used it as an opportunity to have a week off. I just had a hearty breakfast (included in my rate)and a light supper in the evening with sparkling water and ended up spending approx £90 a day. A couple of minor negatives worth noting....... I’m not sure that the sea is quite as clean as it used to be. There is construction next door to the hotel which spoils the aspect. It’s v close to the airport. (Great if you just want a short transfer.more time at the pool). A lot of older people (like me!)stay at the hotel and if that’s not what you want be aware.
Lovely Property - Great Service
The Chedi Muscat is truly a wonderful property (the suites away from the main building are very nice... however, I understand that the rooms in the main building area are not as nice). The restaurants and that Spa are superb. The suites are well maintained and have a free well stocked mini bar. It’s truly a place where you can conduct business and still enjoy life.
A nice hotel, but...
The hotel is very nice, large property with beautiful gardens. However there are quite a few things that are not as good as they seem. First the service, people are mostly friendly but not necessarily helpful. They tend to forget orders in the restaurants. The room was nice, we got upgraded to a chedi room from a serai room, but everything is a bit old and not well designed. There was a single wall socket for the whole room, and it was used by a lamp already. The aircon is oldish with no display to know the current temperature or the wanted one. The shower floor is uneven and doesn't drain properly leaving a pond a cold water on the floor. The worst was the cisco phone, honestly I have no idea how people can make use of that, it's ok because I used to have the same at my workplace, but it's completely not intuitive. I everywhere you can dial 0 for reception, here you have to go through 5 or 6 menus before finding which number to call. The breakfast buffet is average, nothing fancy. The Japanese restaurant by the long pool was very nice but overpriced. The serai pool cabana restaurant at dinner is a disaster. If you can't cook a pizza, don't put it on your menu. The main restaurant was still the best of all for dinner with large portions of tasty food and good service. All in all it's a nice place to stay but it's grown old and is overpriced.
