Kurumba Maldives

The original Maldives' resort

In 1972, Kurumba was just a collection of huts on a beach. In the years since it’s evolved into a large resort that offers good value luxury.

Kurumba’s history and traditional style are evident throughout, but this compact village-like island also offers a host of more contemporary facilities. There’s always plenty going on here, from snorkelling and tennis to all manner of water sports. There are even arts and crafts activities if you fancy trying your hand at coconut painting and palm leaf folding. Come evening, there’s a complete programme of entertainment.

Why we love Kurumba Maldives

  • Get to paradise faster – Kurumba is only a ten-minute speedboat journey from Malé airport

  • There's an outstanding choice of restaurants, drawing on international specialties, each with a different ambiance

  • Unexpected venues like a shisha bar and an Arabic restaurant set this resort apart

  • Insomniac? Try Yoga Nindra, designed to promote better sleep with the in-house yogi

Choice is the name of the game here. And while the main buffet restaurant, Vihamanaa, is a great go-to for breakfast, this resort comes alive at dinnertime when your options multiply and Kurumba’s Arabic, Thai, and Indian restaurants tempt diners with delicious international flavours.

Vihamanaa
Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the resort’s main buffet restaurant has live cooking stations and a bustling atmosphere.

Thila
Decked out in nautical shades, beachfront Thila is open for breakfast and dinner.

Hamakaze
Set over the water, join fellow guests around a teppanyaki grill for platters of sushi and sashimi.

Al Qasr
Dine on middle eastern specialities in sumptuous surroundings in this dinner-only restaurant.

Mahal
Deliciously spiced Indian dishes take centre stage at the incense-scented Mahal, open for dinner.

Khing Thai
Feast on authentic and aromatic Thai flavours.

Café
All-day dining near the main pool for light snacks, sandwiches, and burgers.

Kandu
An open-air pavilion with an overwater deck. Take your pick from day beds, pods, and relaxing loungers. It’s open from 10am but comes alive in the evenings when live bands and DJs play sets.

Athiri
A classic beach bar serving cocktails with a sunset view.

Fez
Slip into the rich and opulent surroundings of the resort’s shisha bar.

For poolside bites, Café will become a firm favourite. And don’t miss sundowners at Athiri, a classic beach bar in a prime spot.

An in-house yogi delivers a comprehensive programme of classes from sunrise and sunset options to a special type of yoga designed for better sleep.

There’s a fully equipped gym complemented by recreational activities, including tennis and basketball courts.

Expert-led courses and tours by diving company Euro Divers. Many of the best dive sites are within a 30-minute boat trip from the resort, including Manta Point, wreck dives, and some of the most exciting drift dives in the Maldives. The centre is fully equipped with state-of-the-art gear and options for kids.

For snorkelling, the resort’s lagoon is surrounded by wave breakers, which reduce waves and where you’ll find coral filled with vibrant marine life. Beyond the breakers, there’s a dramatic drop and a greater variety of coral, colourful fish, stingrays, and turtles.

The main pool is centrally located, but many guests choose to find their own patch of the powder-sand beach instead.

There are a few standout experiences you can pay extra for, and they’re ideal for families with older children. For example, you can take a boat trip out to a remote sandbank and sit down to a freshly prepared picnic*, or you can head out to a nearby island for a taste of local life*. There’s also lots on offer here for teens who are too old for the kids’ club, from PlayStation pods to Zumba and yoga classes. The island also offers a babysitting service*.

The Family Villas at Kurumba are fantastic. Set over two levels, they each have a terrace, a plunge pool and their very own wine cellar.

Majaa Kids' Club keeps the youngest guests entertained at Kurumba, with exciting games and educational activities with a Maldivian twist. It’s open for children age 4 to 13 from 9am-6pm daily. Children under 4 can attend with a parent, guardian or pre-arranged babysitter. Activities include snorkelling lessons*, pizza making, arts and crafts and sports. Indoors, they can try their hands at painting classes, puzzles, movies, foosball and lots more. Majaa is Maldivian for fun!

Minimum stay: 5 nights 28 Dec -10 Jan; 4 nights 28 Dec-05 Jan.
