The Best Resort We've EVER Visited (so far)!
Get comfy, this is a longggggggggg one! We visited Mayia Exclusive Resort & Spa in September 2019 for 10 days. We were looking for a new resort in Rhodes and came across Mayia which had just opened during 2018, so this was the 2nd full season. When we were on the transfer bus we were advised we would be the last drop off (8th basically) but as we drove past the hotel (5th stop) we heard the appreciative comments other passengers were making and looked up see a beautiful resort and joined in with the appreciative comments, I recall suddenly remembering the beautiful sight that met us from photos I’d seen of the resort and saying “Hang on, this looks familiar, it’s OUR hotel!” We were so stunned by the amazing view that met us and chuffed to bits that it was the loveliest resort we’d passed on our transfer journey! On arrival we were greeted by very welcoming luggage porters who took our cases in and very cheerful reception staff (which has been lacking at pretty much ALL of the hotel resorts we’ve ever visited). This made up for the Jet2 flight being late (yet again) and the long transfer journey (note to self: book taxi transfer next time and book with another airline which arrives earlier in the day)! Having been swiftly and efficiently checked in, we were taken to our room with our cases and shown how things work. We loved the room as soon as we walked in and just requested some extra hangers which were brought up within a few minutes. As we’d arrived after 10:30pm some sandwiches and snacks had been left in our room which was very thoughtful as well as a bottle of fizz and some lovely sweet treats in relation to a milestone celebration. We found everything in our room to be just perfect including a wide selection of drinks in the mini bar such a Coke, Diet Coke, cans of beer, red and white wine, lemonade, orange juice, soda, still & sparkling water, etc, as well as a large packet of crisps, peanuts and Haribo sweets, I’ll just mention here that these were topped up free of charge every day, except for when we put on the Do Not Disturb light. Our walk-in shower was easy to operate and powerful enough to please the hubby who’s really fussy about showers (oh and pretty much everything else), the toiletries were White Company products, great quality shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion as well as soap, vanity kits, toothbrush/paste kits, shower hats, etc. Bath robes were provided in the bathroom as well as slippers and there was a large beach bag with 2 beach towels provided in the room. We’re not interested in swim up rooms and had booked a sea view and were very pleased with the view from our balcony of the swimming pool and the sea. Our balcony had a table and 2 chairs as well as 1 sun lounger (although we probably would have preferred to have 2 sun loungers on the balcony). We were pleased that we had an actual double bed rather than the usual 2 singles pushed together that you often get in European resorts. The décor in the room was tasteful and pleasing to the eye, we had sufficient wardrobe space for our 10 day stay and it would have been easily sufficient for even longer stays. We were very happy with the housekeeping team – although we felt housekeeping popping around twice a day was a bit too much (really, we’re not that messy to need our room done twice a day)! One thing we appreciated was that housekeeping do not disturb you when you have the “Do Not Disturb” light on (there was also one for “Clean My Room”) as we’ve been to so many resorts where they still knock on your door and/or walk straight in when you have “Do Not Disturb” displayed! Toiletries were topped up daily as was the mini bar. Breakfast in the buffet restaurant was from 7 to 10, lunch 12.30 to 2.30 and I can’t remember the exact times for dinner. There are 3 a la carte restaurants on site which you can visit as many times as you can get a booking, we went to the Asian twice during our 10 day stay but didn’t visit the Greek or Italian. We don’t like to be scheduled to have dinner at set times which prevents us from using the a la carte restaurants very often when we’re away and the buffet restaurant was mostly spot on for us anyway. We enjoyed the Asian which had a mixture of Chinese, Thai and Japanese although it would have been a bit better if there was a bit more menu choice available and if they had more sittings as we had to wait 4 days for our second visit due to it being so booked. The service in the main restaurant (Waterfront) was always very good. One little niggle from hubby was that although there was quite a bit of variety for fish lovers like himself, prawns were not available often. During one meal hubby had to tell the chefs that the prawn risotto had no prawns in it! It took about 10 minutes to get the prawns topped up and this was quite early on during the sitting. Aside from this, there was always plenty of food available even just before the end of a sitting. Also, it’s worth noting that they don’t seem to be rigid about the times which is nice for guests who prefer to have later meals. Another thing we appreciated was how promptly your drinks orders were taken in the main restaurant and how quickly the drinks are delivered to your table, this was definitely a plus point for me personally as I always need drinking water whilst having any meal! We found pretty much every staff member we encountered across the resort to go over and above in terms of friendliness and service standards. They work really hard all day and to be able to keep up that warm welcome and superb customer service really speaks a lot for their training and earnest personalities, I guess the reasons they were chosen to work at this exclusive resort. We recognised a few members of staff from another 5 star hotel we’ve stayed at in Rhodes twice before and we could see why they’d been brought over to Mayia; Alkis is one particularly lovely member of the bar staff team that we remembered from the other hotel from last year. I would hate to miss anyone out so I’m going to try to remember as many names as possible of the fabulous team at Mayia bar and restaurants – Evangelios, Adonis and his lovely wife Maria, , Altzen, Emilios, Aphrodite, Gestiana and Juliano from the various bars and the other Maria too who was mostly at the pool bar during the day, the charming Evi from the Champagne bar, yes, a champagne bar where they serve Moet as part of the all-inclusive as well as a wide range of other quality wines! The lovely Michaeleta from the Guest Relations team was a delight as well as the wonderful Vasilis and Tsampikos from reception, who never failed to ask how our day and stay was going whenever we passed them, absolute diamond set of people working here. Jason who works in the Street Food area was really charming and friendly and Nikos from here was lovely too. And not to forget the adorable Faidra who worked as a hostess in various restaurants (she seemed to be everywhere), super-efficient and cheerful as well as the lovely and ever so helpful Aristea in the Waterfront (main) restaurant. Did I mention that there an excellent selection of branded drinks available included in the all-inclusive? This was literally the best all-inclusive we’ve been to when it comes to most everything but the availability of high quality branded drinks was important as hubby likes single malt of which there were several really good ones and a huge selection of cocktails and really good vodkas, gins, etc. Do we sound like alcoholics? We’re not, honestly guv! Our only really negative experience at Mayia was the Spa. On arrival we were given 2 free vouchers for a 15-minute massage, obviously this is to entice you to sign up for a paid massage. Both hubby and I had a pleasant enough 15-minute massage but neither of us appreciated being given a list of suggested treatments which amounted to several hundred Euros in cost. We said we’d think about it. Hubby signed up for a manicure and pedicure which he generally only has when he’s on holiday. The cost was 55 Euros and we had to pay up front. This was one of the worst decisions made on holiday. Hubby was horrified at the poor quality mani pedi he received and 8 weeks after returning from holiday his fingernails were still recovering. He complained at the time to the manicurist (Vicky) about how harshly she was filing his nails (making his fingers bleed) and also at the end of the manicure to the Spa Manager, Sofia, who didn’t seem at all bothered about this awful treatment of his hands. The pedicure was pretty amateurish too but at least his feet weren’t bleeding. We complained about this the following day to the General Manager, Stefanos, showing him the state of hubby’s fingers, who was extremely apologetic and came back within 15 minutes with a voucher for a free 1-hour massage. Hubby really didn’t want to use this as he just didn’t want to set foot in the spa again, but I said he might as well just to try to make him feel better. Despite the awful experience in the spa, we enjoyed the rest of our 10 day stay at Mayia and we have already booked for a return visit in May 2020 for 10 days again (we’ll just make sure we stay clear of the spa next time)! The grounds are beautiful, the pools are lovely, the rooms all have great views from what we could tell of the layout. The Street Food area is a fabulous alternative to going to a sit-down meal in a formal restaurant setting. The resort is kept spotless all day and night by an efficient housekeeping team who are always smiley and cheerful when you make eye contact. I can’t think of a time during our stay when we saw any staff standing around idly – they really work hard and especially bar staff, they remember your drink preferences, don’t keep people waiting long to be served. It all runs very efficiently, like clockwork. I guess this goes a long way to show how well they’re trained in their jobs as well as why they were recruited to work here in the first place – because they displayed exemplary customer service skills! A strong 5 out of 5 for this beautiful resort! We have already booked to go back for 10 days in the next few months when the resort opens for the season again! We’ll just avoid the spa!
I Don't Usually Go to All-Inclusives, but.....
My boyfriend and I made 2 one night trips to the Mayia in October. We live on Rhodes, so did not do the usual "stay for a week" deal. In spite of this, we had a marvelous time. The staff is friendly, helpful and professional - all at the same time. The food was good... ok, I am not a buffet person, so I was a little critical of the blandness of some of the dishes - but buffets are typically made to appeal to the broadest spectrum of people with all kinds of dietary habits. We did very much enjoy our dinner at their Asian restaurant, Wasabi. The service was great and the food was wonderful. We had a room with pool access just outside our door. Definitely go for that if you can. Again, I don't normally endorse "all-inclusives." I am the type of traveler who would rather have an adventure than an experience in another country where I have the option of secluding myself from the outside. However - for a few nights, I would recommend the Mayia simply for its excellence. Just don't forget there is an outside Greece out there waiting to be explored with open arms.
After reading all the glorious reviews, I was expecting something fabulous...not so. We had a swim up suite which to be honest was lovely...no grumbles there. The problem with this resort is that its only open 6 months of the year,therefor properly trained staff aren’t in abundance. The poor guy serving the pool was run ragged they constantly ran out of berries for the cocktails.The champagne bar is nice and serve Moët to your hearts content,however I asked for peach juice to put in it and was told no,so I got in the lift and went to the downstairs bar and got it myself...(having stayed in many 5 star resorts I know that the effort would have been made to get it for me).Another issue in the specialty restaurants is you can’t get a liqueur coffee after your meal,again you have to go downstairs to the bar yourself. We went to the street food bar once and ordered Tacos ...they were freezing,on asking the waiter why they were chilled he replied”man,I’m actually a musician not a cook”!!..he then told me they are served cold in Mexico(clearly a comedian too) We paid 75 euro extra for the lobster dish in the restaurant and I could tell straight away it was frozen...we then had to argue with the manager for 20 mins about it...who then said it was “fresh frozen”!...I actually spoke the the general manager 2 days later about it...he wasn’t to bothered and told me all they get is good reviews on trip advisor...then on check out the lobster was on our bill,again(with a taxi waiting to take us to airport),they argued again about the 75euro...this is not the way to treat people who spend £5,000 on your hotel. The food in the buffet restaurant is never hot enough,and the food in the specialty restaurants is bought in pre packaged.The staff in the buffet restaurant,some good,some terrible,I put two slices of watermelon on a plate to take to my wife who was in the room,the female restaurant floor manager sprinted over and spoke to me like a child then took the watermelon from me.. The hotel is stunning and well laid out,the rooms are lovely,however they need to work on the detail.
Luxury, quality and amazing location
I loved every minute of my stay here. From the 1st second I entered the lobby untill the last second I left the lobby I was treated royaly and I will definetely come back here ! The food and the drinks were all from very high quality and the a la carte restaurant was super good.
Couldn't ask for more
We've stayed at a few different all inclusive luxury resorts before. This one definitely delivers on the luxury, we got the private pool sea view suite and it was beautiful and spacious, the largest private pool we've ever had! Food at buffets and restaurants were all excellent, much better than average restaurant fare. Entertainment was nice and the spa was beautifully equipped and offered professional service. I would recommend to anyone looking for a stress free stay and maximising down time.
