 Legacy Yen Tu - MGallery

Mountain calm

A peaceful mountain retreat with 13th-century design, serious wellbeing credentials, and a location that works beautifully en route to Ha Long Bay.

Set at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain in Quang Ninh Province, Legacy Yen Tu - MGallery is a design-led retreat shaped by Vietnamese history, craft, and the surrounding landscape. The hotel takes its cues from the 13th-century Tran Dynasty, with traditional materials, handcrafted details, and architecture by Bill Bensley, a Bangkok-based designer known for highly detailed hotels that draw deeply on local history and craft. It works well as a slower stop between Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, or the wider north, especially if you want mountain air, wellbeing, walking trails, and a stay that feels a little different from the expected route.

Why we love Legacy Yen Tu - MGallery

  • Staying here makes the journey between Hanoi and Ha Long Bay feel more considered. Instead of treating this stretch as transit time, you can add mountain walks, wellness, and a slower stay with real texture

  • The architecture is by Bill Bensley, a Bangkok-based designer known for theatrical, highly detailed hotels that draw deeply on local history and craft

  • The location gives you easy access to the Yen Tu mountain area, the birthplace of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism, with walking routes, pagodas, historic sites and the Sacred Mountain Trek close by

  • It is practical as well as peaceful. You are around a one-hour drive from Ha Long Bay and Cat Bi Airport, so it is easy to combine with a northern Vietnam itinerary without adding a complicated detour

Food and drink here is simple, with one main restaurant, a lounge, and a traditional Vietnamese breakfast experience. The focus is on Vietnamese cooking, local ingredients, and a compact dining set-up rather than a long list of outlets.

Tho Quang Restaurant
The main restaurant for lunch or dinner, with Vietnamese royal cuisine as the starting point. In practice, that means refined, carefully presented dishes with clean flavours, fresh herbs, vegetables, broths, grilled meats, or seafood, plus some international touches.

Thien Quan Lounge
The easy option for tea, coffee, cocktails, wine, or light snacks between walks, spa time, or dinner.

Wellbeing is one of the defining features of staying ay Legacy Yen Tu. Inspired by the spiritual heritage of Yen Tu Mountain, Am Tue Tinh Wellness Centre focuses on traditional healing practices, indigenous herbs and thermal and hydro experiences, making it feel more considered than a quick massage squeezed in before dinner. You can also join morning yoga, take on the Sacred Mountain Trek, use the fitness centre, or have quieter moments by the outdoor Zen Pool. It is a good choice if you want wellness to be a proper part of the stay, without needing the whole trip to become a full retreat programme.

Legacy Yen Tu’s responsible approach comes through most clearly in its connection to local craft, culture, and food. The design uses traditional materials and handcrafted details inspired by the Tran Dynasty, while the dining highlights Vietnamese cooking and local ingredients.

Children are welcome, with extra beds and cribs available on request, and there are seven connecting rooms. The restaurants are child-friendly and offer children’s menus, which helps if you are travelling with younger children. This hotel works best for families who enjoy nature, culture, gentle exploring, and pool time, rather than a resort setup with lots of organised children’s activities.
