 InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

Beach, bay, and Bensley brilliance

A Son Tra Peninsula escape where rainforest, a private bay, a 700-metre beach, Michelin-starred dining and a basket-boat funicular turn resort life into something rather special.

This place is made for switching off in style, but not sitting still (unless you want to). The resort sits in the Son Tra Peninsula Nature Reserve, tucked into 97 acres of preserved mountainside above Bai Bac Bay, with 189 rooms, suites, penthouses, and villas looking down towards a 700-metre secluded beach. Bill Bensley is the creative mind behind it all: the celebrated hotel designer took Vietnamese temples, lanterns, basket boats, conical hats, monkeys, and a large dose of mischief, then turned the whole hillside into four levels named Heaven, Sky, Earth, and Sea. The Nam Tram funicular links them, gliding through the trees in basket-boat-shaped carriages, which is far more fun than waiting for a buggy. Add non-motorised watersports, beach games, yoga, tai chi, two pools, Planet Trekkers for children, and the chance to spot red-shanked douc langurs or macaques in the surrounding forest, and you have a resort that gives everyone space to do their own thing, then meet again for dinner with a view.

Why we love InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

  • The setting is the wow: rainforest above you, Bai Bac Bay below and a 700-metre beach waiting when you’re ready to swap shoes for sand.

  • Bill Bensley’s design makes the stay feel playful as well as luxurious, from Citron’s Non-La tables to the basket-boat Nam Tram and all those cheeky monkey details.

  • The dining is a real reason to stay put. La Maison 1888 holds one Michelin star, Citron celebrates Vietnamese regional cooking, and Tingara brings Japanese omakase and teppanyaki from Michelin-starred chef Junichi Yoshida.

  • Families get proper choice without the resort becoming child-led: Planet Trekkers for ages 4 to 12, beach games, watersports, cinema screenings and pools.

One night can mean Vietnamese dishes at a table shaped like an upside-down conical hat, the next a French dinner in Central Vietnam’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, then Japanese omakase, beachside Italian, or a cocktail at a 50-metre bar because, frankly, moderation can wait until checkout. There is enough going on to make staying in feel like the plan, not the fallback.

La Maison 1888
Central Vietnam’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, serving contemporary French cuisine by three-Michelin-star chef Christian Le Squer in a Bill Bensley-designed Indochine mansion.

Citron
Vietnamese regional dining from North, Central, and South Vietnam, with the resort’s famous non la tables floating high above the hillside.

Tingara
Japanese fine dining with omakase, teppanyaki, sushi, premium seafood, Kuroge Wagyu, and the creative hand of Michelin-starred chef Junichi Yoshida.

Terra Mare
Beachside Italian coastal cooking, with handmade pasta, artisan pizza, and fresh seafood.

The Pool Bar
Your easy daytime-to-evening drinks spot, with Mauritian craft beers and cocktails inspired by the island’s places and ingredients.

L_o_n_g Bar
A 50-metre-long bar for cocktails, wine, light bites, and a little playful competition with billiards and table tennis.

Buffalo Bar
An elegant spot for aperitifs, digestifs, bubbly, and a grown-up pause before or after dinner.

Private Dining
Private dining can be arranged for a more personal dinner, whether you want the view, the privacy, or both.

Mi Sol Spa handles the pampering side of your stay, while Soar Gym, yoga, tai chi, meditation, tennis, beach games, and forest-bathing-style downtime give you plenty of ways to reset. Go full wellness, do one class and call it balance, or simply take the Nam Tram down to the beach and let the sea do the wellness work.

Slackline, tennis, billiards, table tennis, badminton, beach volleyball, and football feature amongst the things to do.

The 700-metre beach sits on a sheltered private bay, with complimentary non-motorised watersports available at the beach, including kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, and beach games.

InterContinental Danang is Green Globe Certified and shares the surrounding landscape with more than 1,500 species of flora and fauna. Its environmental work includes wildlife protection, native planting, water reuse, monthly energy and waste monitoring, glass-bottled drinking water in rooms, food and organic waste repurposing where possible, and a “No-No List” to avoid endangered species in food and products. The red-shanked douc langurs are the poster monkeys, and rightly so.

This is a top choice for families who want luxury with a sense of play. Planet Trekkers is professionally supervised for children aged 4 to 12, while under-fours can join with a parent. Activities include crafts, art, Vietnamese lantern making, jewellery making, sandcastle building, and scavenger hunts; beyond the kids’ club, there are pools, beach games, watersports, tennis, cinema screenings, and kids under six eating free from the Kids’ Menu.
