 Uga Prāva

Seven suites, one beach

At Uga Prāva, a glorious infinity pool sits just above the sand, palms sway overhead, and the whole place feels more like a very well-designed beach house than a hotel.

Uga Prāva sits on Sri Lanka’s south coast near Tangalle, hidden among lush tropical gardens, creating a serene, secluded hideaway. With just seven ocean-facing suites, the scale is deliberately small, so the atmosphere stays calm and personal throughout your stay. Interiors keep things pared back yet unmistakably luxurious, with clean lines, sandy tones, and natural materials that echo the nearby coral reefs. It’s a good fit for couples wanting a peaceful beach stay, though there’s enough room and flexibility for families with older children and teens, too. And with a private butler available via WhatsApp, help with dinner plans, surf lessons, or sunset cocktails are never far away.

Why we love Uga Prāva

  • Seven suites mean it never feels remotely busy, which is a rare luxury on Sri Lanka’s increasingly popular south coast

  • The infinity pool flows towards the Indian Ocean, and is a real showstopper

  • Your butler is only a message away, which turns out to be surprisingly useful when you suddenly decide you want dinner on the terrace

  • The design nods to nearby coral reefs with soft colours, rattan textures, and natural stone, giving the whole place a relaxed, coastal feel

A restaurant and bar overlooks the ocean, with indoor and open-air seating that makes the most of the views and the gentle sea breeze. The kitchen works closely with local producers and fishermen, so seafood features heavily alongside Sri Lankan classics and lighter international dishes. Breakfast might involve herbal kola kanda porridge and hoppers, while later in the day the menu moves through seafood bowls, small plates, and spiced curries that reflect the island’s coastal ingredients.

What's Included

Half Board • Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant

Inspired by Balinese spa traditions, the treatments* specialise in relaxing massages and body rituals using natural oils, alongside private yoga and meditation sessions*. There’s also a gym, though the ocean, pool, and long beach walks tend to take care of most people’s exercise.

Guided cycling trips wind through traditional fishing villages and quiet coastal roads, offering a glimpse into everyday life along the shore. Cultural outings include visits to the dramatic rock-top Mulkirigala Temple, while nature lovers can explore Kalametiya Lagoon on a boat safari, where herons, kingfishers, and other bird species are regularly spotted. Slower pursuits are also on offer, including pottery sessions with local artisans and private yoga or meditation by the sea.

The coastline attracts surfers, although many are just as happy watching the waves from the beach or the pool terrace. For those keen to get out on the water, kayaking trips can be arranged on nearby lagoons and waterways, where mangroves, lotus flowers, and birdlife set the scene. Boat excursions further along the coast also offer opportunities for snorkelling and seasonal whale watching, giving you a different perspective on Sri Lanka’s southern shoreline.

Uga Prāva follows the broader sustainability framework used across Uga Resorts. This includes solar energy systems and solar water heating, wastewater treatment with reuse for irrigation, and responsible waste management aimed at reducing landfill. The group also prioritises local employment and sourcing, working with nearby communities and Sri Lankan suppliers wherever possible, while supporting conservation and biodiversity initiatives connected to the surrounding environment.
